Princess Pelosi is in a big hurry to get the vote over with-she's due in Rome!

She has to be in Rome for an audience with the Pope so she's trying to hurry up the vote. I find this very ironic--a Catholic who advocates abortion going to an audience with a holy man who revers life and is vehemently against killing unborn children. How is she in good standing with the Church? I don't understand. And trying to rush a vote through for the convenience of Mrs. Pelosi is unconscionable.

I'm not posting in support of Pelosi but she's in good standing with the Church the same way that every other Pro Choice Catholic, like myself, is. The Church does not dictate what we think. Supporting another woman's rights is not a sin. I have never felt nor has it ever been suggested to me that supporting legalized abortion is a sin according to my Church. Obtaining one is vastly different from believing that it should remain legal and controlled.

Thank you for clearing that up. I'm confused, though. I read an article in January that "Cardinal Francis George of Chicago has warned any Catholic politicians who vote for this bill that they may face excommunication. The church in the United States has promised that if the bill passes, they will close every Catholic hospital in this country." The bill in question was FOCA, the Freedom of Choice Act. Now, that article was a letter, more of an editorial, not a true news article. Is the author correct? I can understand why the hospitals would close rather than be forced to go against their core beliefs and destroy babies but would it really do so?

As far as I know he would have a hard time excommunicating anyone for voting. The Church has no right to interfere with the political process just as the government has no right to interfere with the Church but angry Cardinals can say whatever they want since it's a free country.
As far as the Catholic hospitals go, I have no idea what they will do in response to FOCA but I'm pretty confident that they won't allow themselves to be forced into performing abortions. Instead of closing down completely I'd put my money on them closing their OB/GYN departments which could create some hardships for some communities.
