Do animals have souls?

I just finished a book by the same title-I absolutely loved it. It was written by a minister, and discussed how animals are living beings. A gorilla that understood American sign language said she wanted a kitten for her birthday. When the kitten died, the gorilla cried and communicated that she was sad whenever "cat" was signed. A group of wild elephants tried desperatly to lift up and revive the body of one that had been shot. When they knew there was no hope left, they covered the body with dirt and broken branches. And crows and pelicans feed and help blind or disabled comrads. The main point was that without a body and minds animals are no different from us, and I absolutely agree with that. Do you? :o
