Do you search before posting a discussion?

To avoid duplicating with earlier discussions, I always search before starting a new one. Like for this one, I tried to search with keywords "search", "searching", walking through the search results to make sure there is no similar (or same) discussion, at least in this few weeks or months. Few days ago, I saw three discussions talking about the best web browser, all started in the same day. Frankly, I don't quite like this... (although I know this is alright for many people) However, searching a similar discussion may not be that easy. As you know, there are two ways of searching - by tags or full-text. Searching by tags depends on whether the similar discussions were tagged appropriately and whether I am searching with appropriate tags. The scope of searching with full-text is too huge and not quite useful. Anyway, I'll still do a searching before I post. How about you? Do you searching before posting a discussion?

I used to do that initially. The search results, however are not too much of a help. Also It takes a lot of time and patience. So, I no longer search for the topic that I post. Besides, there are many posts that are duplicated unknowlingly but are better than the previous once. Since not much fuss is made out of it, I think its okay just to post discussions without searching. Have a nice day!

Hi nikky28. Thank you for your posting. Perhaps you are right... The topic of discussions may be the same, but the content can be different... I agree. I think I am too serious. by the way, congratulation for having 100 posts! Happy mylotting.

Hi hopejordan. I understand what you mean. For me, about 30% of the topics I want to open was started before. It's uneasy to think of something really new.

Hello jickyeung, That's very thoughtful of you to take time to search for a discussions before you start one. I don't post a lot of discussions and so I don't do search. If ever I post at discussion, it is usually based on my experience, mood or things related to me personally. There is a still a slight chance that someone else have the same experience, but I think it is just ok because there is a big chance there are differences. For general topic, I agree it's good to search first. Regards.

Hi jickyeung, I never searched a discussion topic before posting my own. If I have an idea to start a discussion (normally I am sure within my friend's circle nobody started the same topic) I will think many days how to explore it. My discussion is my own ideas may be some similarities in topic but the theme will be entirely different or the presentation will be entirely different so I am not bothered if any one started a similar discussion except within my friend's circle. If similar discussion started by my friend means I already passed my ideas in the form of a response about the topic then there is no point to start a new discussion on the similar topic.
