I have a question that might sound stupid! It is; can a computer run if you don't have Microsoft Windows? I recently got my computer back after having it being fixed. Any way they told me my computer will go down by the end of the month if I don't activate Windows! I bought the computer almost a year ago from someone at work. Anyway I don't have the keycodes to activate windows! I tried to get them without any luck! I don't want to take the computer back to be worked on again! I need advice! What should I do or need to do?

I would recommend you call them and ask them to send you are copy of your verification or keycodes... If they worked on your computer they should have records of it explain you lost them... It can run on different free operating systems or windows free version on microsoft site you can request a password code usually from there. But just contact your computer person and explain what happened.. Theyshould be able to tell you from there here to go - DNatureofDTrain

Do you have yahoo im? I have a friend who works on computers for a living who can help you set up operation systems and stuff.. he is a computer pro.. He could tell you where to get a code too but first call the place you went to get your computer fixed at.. if you still need help then pm me your yahoo id or your email, and I will ask him, and give you information to get ahold of him for you. - DNatureofDTrain

I sounds like you may need to take your computer to an Computer Repair shop. It sounds like you have Windows misconfigured. You may need to reinstall Microsoft Windows again.. I hope that you get this all figured out! Please let an expert fix this so that your problem will be corrected. Good Luck!

Linux is a free operating system, but that is all I really know about it. You can check out their website to see if you can find out more. [a href="http://www.linux.org/dist/download_info.html"]http://www.linux.org/dist/download_info.html[/a] Not a referral link!

I really need to hear how to do links on here now that I can copy and paste. Here's the URL without the attempt at code... http://www.linux.org/dist/download_info.html

Yes It can run without Microsoft windows..You can opt for a DOS machine when buying..Dos is also a disk operating system but it doesn't have GUI(Graphical User Interface)so you need specific commands to operate ..I'm sure you must have heard about it...Anyways i think you should ask for the key from the place you bought the computer..

most of the advice given here is bad or incomplete. 1. Does your computer have a sticker on it which says the name of the windows it runs and a serial number? Then phone Microsnot and tell them that number they will talk you through activating the windows free 2. You don't need windows to run it, you can use a free operating system, like Debian or Ubunto, these are varieties of Linnex, which is really a better operating system than windows and becoming more popular all the best urban

Hi blue65packer, Your computer will be rendered useless unless you activiate your copy of windows. It happened to me. It may be worth your while to shop around for a sale and buy another copy. I found one for $99.00. Good luck.
