hello forslahiri i am not a diabetic, but diabetes does run in my family. my Dad and my youngest brother has diabetes and they both are on medicine for it as well. and i do not know what you mean when that you say, IGT subject? i have never heard of that before, so could you explain to all of us around here at Mylot who might not know what an IGT subejct is, for members like myself who doesn't know exactly what that means. thanks so much for sharing. and my youngest brother has controlled his diabetes before with a low carb diet instead of having to take insulin for his diabetes. take care and have a beautiful evening.

Hi, IGT stands for Impared Glucose Tolerance. In loose term it is the condition before Diabetes, where actually Insulin-Resistance starts in the body.People say if U r detected at this age and take precaution,U may be able to prevent the Diabetes. I congratulate the discipline & life-style-modifiaction tecnique adopted by Ur younger brother. Thanks for responding!

hey there I am a diabetic a type 1 (injections) and have been since I was 7 years old. Keeping my sugars in control is relatively easy, I am not sure if you are a diabetic or just wanting some info, but basically I take 3 injections per day its a mixture of back ground insulin and quick acting then I alter the doses depending on the carbs I am going to eat. I still eat sweets etc etc and I dont let diabetee's rule my life upto now I have had no related complications. Tho one thing I would say is that the care and the knowledge of some of the experts is well scarey to say the least as got told I was hypo when my blood was 6 by a diabetic nurse when its generally under 5 is a hypo and verified by my consultant.

hiya I have been a type one for 26 years, and to be honest I eat sweets diet coke etc etc as I dont let diabetee's rule my life its not that hard to control once you are experienced and I still eat junk food and have cakes and sweets etc etc its just a case of adjusting your insulin to counter act the carbs intake.

I don't know if I have diabetes. I often wonder, because I know it is a silent disease. My maternal grandfather had it. I remember he would give himself insulin shots. I don't have any health insurance so I hope I don't have it. Fingers crossed.

Hi, Thanks for responding. This generally happens, diabetes is diagonised accidentally(e.g-tooth extraction, before planned surgery etc).If U r 40+, why don't u go for PPBS&FBS check? =Lahiri,Kolkata,India.

I am a type 1 diabetic. I was diagnosed 2 years ago. I was surprised when I found out because I dont feel anything unusual then ( aside from getting thirsty a lot). I am not at all overweight. My BMI was ideal for my height. I love to cook but I am very much in control of my sugar and carbs intake. I dont drink soda and Im not much into chocolates....Also, I do exercise regularly. The only thing I am guilty of is I came from a family with a strong history of diabetes. Mom & Dad are both diabetics, Paternal grandpa is diabetic too... So now, I am on basal insulin every bedtime. I also take oral meds. I also make sure I eat right and stay active. So I guess, my blood sugar is in control because of my own effort, my endocrinologist's guidance and my meds.
