My son has been begging me since we move here to take him to the comic book store up the road. I finally broke down and went in there with him yesterday. He was in awe at the number of comic books. I don't know if he is going to want to just read them or if he is going to want to start collecting them. He got a new Spiderman comic. Have you or your kid ever gotten into comic books? Collecting or just reading?

Wow! I am actually writing my master thesis on the use of grapic novels with special education LD students to enhance literacy. I say continue with them. They are remarkable literacy tools and will do a great deal to enhance his reading skills. Not only will he decode, but he'll enhance vocabulary skills, literary concepts, and so forth. The list goes on but I won't bore you with it here. My oldest daugters collect and read comics as well as graphic novels. My husband still has his collection from when he was a kid, and our son just started to recognize what they are. There are so many wonderful ones out there! I'm both a Marvel and Dark Horse fan.

I never really got into comic books, but I had a friend in college who loved them. She read and collected them (I remember her showing me her most prized possession, an X-Men #1.) If he's going to start collecting them you might want to talk to the shop owner and get some suggestions, I know there are plastic sleeves that can protect the covers. I think it's a great way to keep kids reading. But be aware, comics aren't just for kids anymore. Some can be quite graphic and explicit in their content.

Actually the shop guy automatically put it in a plastic sleeve when I paid for it. I think it is cool because he hates to read when he has to, but he will sit down and read a comic book Figures!

Dear friend, As a kid I used to collect comics books later I gave many of it to local library, my friends and relatives. But even now I do read them if I get chances my favourites were Puruana Amarchithra Kathas, Twinkle,Phantom, Mandrake, Tintin, Superman, Sipderman and famous five. I hope it is really a catchy product for kids who like stories.

How old is your son? My son, 9 years old, does the same thing. He will not stop with comic books only, but he goes for coloring scrapbooks, CDs / DVDs too. In our area, those comic books and these CD / DVD are sold at grocery stores itself. So whenever we go to the grocery store (he smells it somehow), just he will cling to my shoulder and start asking for these kind of things. He will read those books for just few seconds and then tell "Father! Can you read and tell me the story?". Thank God, he plays the movies for himself. Again, he'll be screaming "Dad! Look at this" often.
