Does this ever happen to you? I watch very little news most of the time, but sometimes for unexplainable reasons, I will become a news junkie for a day or two. This time it was because of the Plane Crash in New York. I spent several hours watching the news channels play the same information over and over. Why did I do that? Does this ever happen to you? You get fascinated by a news story for what ever reason and you just what hours of a news channel? Why do we do this? What do you think?

I think it happens to all of us, Aurone, whenever there is a story that really touches us. I remember when the accident involving Princess Diana happened that I was literally glued to the news channel all day and most of the night. The same thing has happened to me with other news stories. We develop a morbid curiosity about the events surrounding a personality while at the same time wishing that the story could have a different outcome.

That is so true. I really didn't watch the Diana thing much because she wasn't that much a part of my generation, but I do remember my mom and dad staying up to watch it. They has been there and watched the whole fairy tale story. I guess the reason plane crashes interest me is because I do fly some, I fly home twice a year and I will (hopefully) be flying to a job interview or two soon.

I have done that myself. I may normally try to watch the 5:00 news, but if I miss it it isn't a big deal for me,but once in a while, I find myself glued to CNN following all of the news stories for a day or so. Then, it's right back to my usual routine. I think this happens to me more when I know that there has been a significant event in the world that hits home to me for one reason or another. I am not the type to worry myself with the problems of the world. I know that I can not change it all and make it better, so I focus more and helping people one at a time. When something really horrible happens, like 9/11, I tend to watch the news a lot more.

I guess we all do. When Something big like 9/11 happens that affects a great many of us, we all want to be informed about it so that we are able to help as much as we can.

As humans, this is what we do! When the news is so shocking, we have to play it over and over again and again in our heads, till it really sinks in then we can go and resume our lives and put the matter behind us, that is how the human brain has to work! When the space shuttle killed those 7 people and when 9/11 happened, I couldn't get enough news about them till finally my brain was filled and exausted to the point it just stopped and turned away from any more sad news and I was finally able to get back to my old life. That is probably what you are doing on a small scale. When your brain has had enough, you will know it and that news will no longer interest you and you can get back to your old life until the NEXT awful event!

i do that sometimes. most of the time i do not have time to do it but once in awhile if i am sick or in the house alot doing stuff and i put the tv on i usually gravitate to the news channels and then get sucked in. i like staying informed with politics and all and i will be honest i do not understand all of it but i have a good basic foundation. i hate seeing news about children being kidnapped or worse.

I am only working part time right now, so I have the time to get sucked in by the news. I occasionally like to know what is going on in politics, I also like to know what is going on with different celebrities.

I was a new junkie too when the plane crashed. Thing is I rarely turn on the TV, but for some reason I did that day and it was on both our non cable tv stations. Yes we only have 2 stations without cable. I called my folks in California to tell them to turn their tv on. They only turn it on in the evening.

I told everyone I knew about it. It was just so weird for me to do that.

Yes it happens to me all the time. I'm not really sure why it happens though. Maybe there will be an interesting story on one night and I'll watch the news for hours. The next few days actually is when I start becoming a junky. Especially when something like an election is going on. I watch the news every day religiously. I think it's because we go a long time without being connected into current events and then we finally see something and feel in the loop when people at school or work start to talk about it and like being knowledgable so we start to watch it more. The problem is that it's a big time commitment so we are only a junky for a few days because we are forced to spend our time elsewhere after our news "honeymoon" period because of pther engagements or responsibilities.

I am a junkie every day. I always watch the news for 1-2 hours a day. Maybe it is too much. I also read news websites.

I am an all around news junky. I could watch the news all day and be happy. I dont know what it is I like so much about the news but I can sit and listen to it all day. I even like to listen to it before I go to sleep.

I know other people like that, but I am just not one of them, except ever so often, its like I get mesmerized by the news.
