Do you pay attention to your care labels?

Do you pay attention to your care labels? Do you actually get your article drycleaned if the care label says "Dry Clean Only", or do you take your chances hand-washing or using your washing machine? I'm curious to know how many people actually pay attention to care labels. I personally have made it a habit, only because I used to work at a drycleaners, where we did nothing BUT check care labels for four-five hours a day. :) What about you? Have you ever ruined something because of not following the care label? Share your experiences! :)

I always pay attention to the care tags, clothes are getting expensive and I want to make sure they do not get ruined by incorrect care. The only problem is after so long, the tags are almost hard to read, I guess by then it is time to get new clothing and linens, huh?

That's a good point! I hadn't thought of that. I agree - clothes ARE getting ridiculously expensive, so it's a good idea to know how to care for them. Thanks for responding!

I usually look and as a general rule I don't buy something that says 'dry clean only'. I have wrecked a few things (mostly thrift shop finds) by just chucking them in the regular laundry but it was a live and learn kinda thing. If something requires fussy care then I don't really want it in my wardrobe! I have also found that lots of special care items are fine in the regular laundry, I just don't put them in the dryer.

I agree. A lot of the time, clothes just need to be dried on a drying rack, which you can buy at Wal-mart for like $10. I'm like you, though, most of my clothes nowdays are from the thrift store - so it's not too huge of a deal if I accidentally ruin something (unless I really like it, I suppose). Thanks for the response! :)

I do check most of the time ever since the day I ruined my favorite sweater, long ago. When I was younger, I thought labels were for those who knew nothing about washing. I had threw my sweater in with some other clothes I was washing and then tossed it in the dryer, too. When I went to fetch the done laundry, I thought someone has stole my sweater, because I did not see it. It was not until I went upstairs with the laundry and started to fold it, that I realized I now had a sweater that would fit a Barbie doll. LOL I just could not believe just how much my favorite sweater had shrunk. So yes, I do read to avoid the same happening.

My sister (who's my age) did the same thing once, and so she gave the sweater to my other sister (who's 6 years old) and it fit her perfectly. That's too bad, but I'm sure it was a learning experience for you! Do you check the care labels before you buy things? Or just before you wash them? Thanks for the response, by the way!

Yes, I have ruined clothing because of not following the label, but I have learned my lesson. If it is delicate such as certain underwear I hand wash them. Before I would just throw them in the washer and they would get beat up, and come out all torn up looking. It takes a while, but it's well worth it not to ruin my clothing.
