Solar Panels for your Home

How many here use solar energy to run anything in your home (or office)? Do you have solar panels? Do you use solar portable power? If you do not currently use solar energy, what is keeping you from doing so? If money was not the problem, would you still use solar energy? Many European countries use alternative energy sources, especially wind turbines. Do you think the United States will become more of a leader in alternative energy in the coming years?

In my country I heard that there is a place where they have constructed wind turbines by the seashore to produce energy. I also heard that there is this company that is trying to put up a solar power plant but I haven't seen anyone from individual homes making or putting solar panels in their houses. I think that would be very ideal if everyone will have one for their energy requirements. What is holding me back is that the price are quite high in my place if ever you want to put some and the government is not that supportive to those that would want to invest in this kind of technology. In many western countries they are given an incentive if they would invest into this kind of technology but in our place where it is supposed to have sunshine almost all throughout the year they are not that keen on this technology.

I think it would be a great idea, but in the UK there isn't much sun, so a wind turbain would be better, but they are too big and noisy.

I also think the solar energy and solar system cost a bit. I would love to buy a solar system so that I can save electricity and electricity bills. I am planning to buy solar system in the future when I can afford to buy one. I like the solar system very much. Right now I am trying to save money for the solar lanterns, which I can use instead of the lamps.

Heya, another Barb! *waves to the responder above her* Ok, back to the discussion. Yes, I too would love to have solar energy in my home, but agree that the price of solar panels are a tad high. However, I have found, that there are many inexpensive solar portable products around that I am seriously thinking of purchasing. There are flexible, small solar panels ... there are even backpacks with solar panel technology on them! Then you have your rechargeable batteries and the chargers themselves are solar powered. I have also found a wide range of solar powered lighting - indoor and outdoor. *sighs* My wish list is a mile long! *grins* And on the question about how much of a leader the United States could be ... that all depends on what our new President does. He has every intention of making alternative energy a prominent topic in the coming years. Hopefully, when our economy gets back on track and folks have money again, that they will start buying the solar products and wind products.
