Friend Got Fired. Did I Do the Right Thing?

A coworker just lost her job. And I found out what people thought about her and told her. She said she appreciated hearing it. But I know it was hurtful. I mean, I have been fired before and I remember how it felt to see people look at me strangely or stop being my friend when I quit working. I also told her things that she should do to improve her appearance and hygeine at the place. For example, she managed several people and she was supposed to be at a public event with the rest of the staff. Well, she showed up late to the public event and she showed up wearing sweatpants. But she is the manager over several staff and so when the Executive Director introduced people, they could not introduce her. Then she was sick as a dog and instead of taking time off to get better, she came into the organization sneezing and coughing over everything. She made everyone in the office sick. And when she was in meetings, she would sneeze really loud and it sounded like a horse. She smoked cigarettes but that was not the problem. But her clothes smelled like cigarettes and they also smelled sour as if she had not taken a bath or cleaned them. She was really nasty. She is a nice person and really means well but she has some really nasty habits and bad hygeine. I did not tell her as I am writing it here. But I had to tell her the truth and hope that she understands. Usually people leave the person alone when they quit or get fired. But would you want someone to tell you the truth?

I would want someone to be honest with me. I would rather be told the truth and have my feelngs hurt so I can takes steps to improve than to have no one say anything at all and I had no idea what the problem was so I didn't do anything to improve myself. In the past, I was fired once and straight out asked for an explaination. It actually had nothing to do with me at all, just circumstances and I happened to be low man on the totem pole, so I had to be the one let go.
