What is the most dangerous prescription painkiller in the USA?

United States

i have heard people argue that its morphine then others say its oxycodone or fentanyl and so i was wondering if there is a site that actually says which is the worst since im always prescribed painkillers i would like to know if i am given something that is the most dangerous since docs just like to write it out and hand it to you and thats it! some doctors seem to want to shy away from lesser powerful drugs and hand out the hard stuff first (which makes no sense) and even though i try to know and keep up with all the medications some times i end up looking them up anyways to find out what they are all about.. next time i go into my doctors office i would like to know that if _________ is the most dangerous i can argue to try something else (if anything else) thanks!!

Hi moonlitmagikchild, I don't know whether it's because I live in Canada or what, but I was diagnosed years ago with a slipped disc, osteoporosis and just recently fibromyalgia. The doctors around here don't want to give you anything except Tylenol #3 which I think are the worst things for your stomach. I can actually feel them eating my stomach lining if I ever have to break down and take one. Thank God I found a doctor that has know this kind of pain and prescribes the oxycontin. Without that, there would be days when I would not be able to get up at all. Thanks doc Cheers, Cheryl

Opiates of any kind are dangerous. Fentanyl would probably top the list of most potent. It's a synthetic opioid and about 80 times stronger than morphine. Scary stuff. I've had Vicodin, Demerol & Oxycodone (as Percodan). Vicodin made me sick after a couple of days. Oxycodone I could tolerate but I had to cut the pills in half otherwise I was unconscious for 14 hours. Even taking half it killed the pain but I was so out of it that I couldn't function. I hated it. The Demerol was a one shot emergency in the ER after a back injury. All in all I avoid any opioids unless it's an emergency. They are just too much for this girl. I like being conscious.

Yep you have. Percocet is oxycodone & acetaminaphine. Percodan is oxycodone & aspirin. I have a friend who can take opiates with almost no effects as well. A half normal dose will knock me on my can for hours. But I'm super sensitive to just about all medications.

i was always told that oxycotine are the most dangrious at least thats what i was told by everyone but i have been on them and have no problem but to tell you the truth is any pain killer can be dangerous if taken wrong , the dr's around here start you off of the soft stuff first before they give you hard stuff, it took the dr 3 years to convince me to even take oxycotine because of all the bad stories i heard but then i had no choice after the pain got really bad i will live with this pain for life and thats the only thing that help i am supose to take 20mg a day but i only use it when i need to because if it don't hurt why take it. they say that oxycotin has the same thing that herion has in it so they say you can get hooked on them but every one is diffrent because i was on them for 1 year then got off when i was pregnet then got put back on them for 2 years then stoped when i got pregnet again and then i just got put back on them but when i stopped taking them i didnt have any problems like i said i only took them when i needed to not just because i am supose to take them. so to answer your question any pain killer can be if used wrong or if mixed with other meds but they say oxycotines are but every one is diffrent so the best you can do is talk to your dr and look it up on the internet before you start to take any thing.
