Lactose Intolerance?

How would I know if I am lactose intolerant? It seems that I sometimes get bad gas after eating cheese. And after I drink milk 10 - 15 mins later, I get a upset stomach. Is this all in my head, or do I have an acute case of lactose intolerance?

It's not in your head. Sounds to me like you are lactose intolerant . They make pills that you can take , and they also have lactose free milk .

Ask your doctor. I had some issues this summer and in trying to figure out what the problem was I had to go a week without any dairy products. You don't realize how hard that is. You can't imagine all the stuff you can't have and it was awful. Losing pizza was the worst.

No, it's not just in your head, especially if you can correlate having the symptoms after ingesting milk and milk products. I had a severe problem with lactose intolerance for years. It's something you should see a Dr about! I never had trouble with milk products until I didn't ingest any for a real long period of time (months on end.) I tried something that was suggested to me...getting my system re-used to milk in a homeopathic way (ie: ingesting very small amounts). I took a quarter teaspoon of milk (straight milk) once a day for 2 weeks, then gradually increased it little by little. Now I can even eat a bowl of ice cream with no effects. Before, I couldn't even eat mashed potatoes because of the milk lol. Here's a link to the Mayo clinic about the symptoms of lactose intolerance. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/lactose-intolerance/DS00530/DSECTION=symptoms I had all the symptoms, and really had a hard time because of it.

I have the same problem. I even have cramps after I drink milk. I have talked to some doctors about it with very little result. I hear a doctor on TV a couple of years go tell my we have problems with milk. He simply said the human stomach is not designed for cows milk. It is designed for a calf's stomach. He said there is a lot of problems with cows milk and the human digestive track. I had serious stomach problems all my life and I have always drank a lot of milk. When it finally hit me what the problem was with my stomach I had already done a lot of permanent damage. I quit milk completely and my stomach problem was gone. No human should drink cows milk. If you must have milk make it goat's milk. Goat milk is structured totally different to cow's milk and the human stomach will digest it just fine. Art

Thanks for the information. And as the others said above, I may still go to the doctor.
