Best way to learn

I really want to learn to play guitar. My father has been in a band for many years, and still plays at various places today. He had started to teach me a little, but then I moved away to the middle of nowhere, Kansas. Here is my question, how hard is it to learn to play the guitar on your own, at home? I live in such a rural area it is next to impossible to find a tutor. I do not want to spend the money on a guitar if I cannot learn it, only to have it sitting in a corner. Any advice?

i am a musician, my dad is a musician also. nobody taught me how to play the guitar or any instruments that i know now. i basically learned it on my own. i saw a copy of guitar chords at the center of a certain music magazine and sat in the corner and learned that on my own. i focus on playing atleast 2 hours everyday or sometimes one hour depends on what i am doing for that day. to make the story short i learned just because of that. now i can hear the new songs playing on the radio and i can play it at once on my guitar for i can follow the tunes already. this site http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/index.php might help you learn. goodluck

Thanks, that gives me hope. I will check out that site. That is my goal, to be able to play along with my fav. songs on the radio, of course rock star fame and fortune would be nice, LOL!
