I will sometimes try to speed walk. I will start of in a slow pace then I will pick up my speed for about a 1/2 hour then I will slow down again until I am finished with my walking. Have you ever tried to speed walk?

I never have tried this. However, from what I hear, it burns more calories than jogging or just walking. Also, it's easier on your joints since they don't have to take a pounding as you jog along. Good luck with it and keep us informed on how it's working for you.

Walking is much better on the body then jogging. I wouldnt be able to jog at all with my bad back.

I used to jog, but I found that about an hour after finishing, my leg joints would be aching and I think it was probably the impact of my feet hitting the ground and jarring on my joints. Speed walking though is a much smoother activity and doesn't hammer on the joints - IMO, a much better form of exercise. :-) Derek

I have tried to speed walk and didn't do so well. The muscle in one leg tightens to the point I have to stop. I enjoy walking in a park near our house which has a path around a lake. It's so pretty especially in the fall when the leaves are turning various colors.

It is my routine medicine walking which I have to perform at least 20 minutes in each day after I encountered my heart disease. After undorgone my Chelation Theraphy and EECP Therapy, I am able to walk more further and now I make it to an hour per day by split it into two (2) session in which a half an hour in one session. To make it an exciting medicine walkig, I always do walking to my faves coffee shop to meet my friends, enjoy some chatting with them while drinking coffee and once finished I walk back home for another 30 minutes. The first 5 minutes as warm up walk, 20 minutes speed walk and the remaining 5 minutes back to slow walk and reach home.

hello moneymommy here soon when the weather is nice outside i will be going to the local track that is nearby at the high school to go do my daily walking. i do not go every afternoon but i do try to go at least three or four times a week to walk. and yes, i have tried to speed walk like that before. after that i get finished walking like that, it always makes me feel lots better. i have even jogged around the track before. i couldn't get from the speed walking to the jogging part of it down right, so sometimes, i will just take off jogging. lol at the first of the Spring when i start back walking, i will only make it around the track maybe two or three times, then each time that i go back i add another lap to what i walked the previous time and work myself up like that, and by the end of the Summer season, i have worked my way up to around ten to twelve times around the track. take care and have a beautiful day today!
