One's dressing style reveals the human obsession with both novelty and tradition. Humans use clothing to announce their membership in a particular social group; however, the rules for what is acceptable dress for that group may alter. In affluent societies, this changing of the rules is the driving force behind fashions. By keeping up with fashions, that is, by changing their clothing style very often but simultaneously, members of a group both satisfy their quest for novelty and obey the basic ground, so demonstrating their membership in the group. There are some interesting variations regarding individual status. Some consider themselves of such high status that they do not need to display it with their clothing. for instance, many wealthy people in entertainment circles appear in very casual clothes, such as worn jeans, work boots. However, it is likely that a subtle but important signal, such as a costly wristwatch, will prevail over the message of the casual clothes. Such an inverted status display is likely to occur where the person's high status is conveyed in ways other than with clothing, such as having a famous face.

Some people dress the way they want to be seen as, while others dress the way they want to become, others self expression, others for attracting certain energies.. others for trying to bring in good luck.... I was always told when you got to church dress like you are worth a million bucks, and I used to say why? G-d knows how I dress all the time sweats, or jeans t-shirt let my hair fly around with the wind, and be a pain to comb out again in two hours... I understand dressing your best at all times if you want to.. But I am not the kind who wants to dress like something I am not. - DNatureofDTrain

people dress up to make hemselves more beautiful. why make them more beautiful? because behind this, people are eager to receive recognition from others, we care about what we are in other's eyes. nice discussion, tudors!
