I have never had to many Pets, I had a Cat once, but it got hit by a car. Although it wasn't exotic, I was watching the News and this Lady had a Chimpaze it mauled her friend. I hear they treat that pet like they were part of the family. What do you think happen to set the Chimp off? They think it was the Meds they gave them with some tea. the Wowen is in crital Condition, I hope she is alright, the Police had to kill the Chimpaze. Well it looks like Exoctic Pets can't be trusted. He stared it commercials, Old navy commercials. Terrible story. What do you think?

A wild animal is just what the name implies. That said, I have had exceptionally good luck with "exotic" pets. In college I had a 6' S. American Red Tailed Boa (named Bev...long story) and a margay named Marge. At one time or another I have had an armadillo, several raccoons, skunks (one was a chocolate color), a kinkajou, a 6' iguana (that took a large chunk out of my nose), a Chinese water dragon, and various other reptiles. Next I would love either an ocicat or Bengal. I'd really love a swamp cat (also called reed cat), but they get fairly large and prefer to catch their own food. My landlady might have an objection to a two foot tall cat. On the canine side, even though I'm not a dog person, wolves and coyotes seem to really like me in the wild and I would love one as a companion. My mother-in-law has a mostly wolf that is fabulous and super friendly. When I lived in Arizona, coyotes would come up to me with no problem.

What kind of ordinary dog do you have? I am curious, you say that he has a funny face?

I saw that story. It was terrible and sad. I don't think you really can trust an exotic pet. A wild animal is always wild animal. I don't think you can ever fully domesticate them.

I have 2 ferrets. When it comes to vet care and basic pet care, they're considered exotic. I don't think the accident had anything to do with the chimp being "exotic." Plenty of dogs have attacked people, and my ferrets only bite bare feet (so wear shoes and you're safe).

I also have a ferret :) I used to have two, but had to put one down a year ago. I know that they are considered exotic but i never understood why.

i just don't think that wild animals should be anyone's pet. you can't take the wild out of them. it's always going to be in their nature. yeah they taught that chimp some really amazing things, but in the end his natural instincts took over i believe. he was tired of being trained and treated that way.

That poor lady, I feel sorry for her. I have had all kinds of critters, dogs, cats, fish, birds, a rabbit, hamsters, gerbils, a snake and a couple of tiny lizards. Nothing too exotic, I just have a dog and some cats now.

I don't have any exotic pets, but my sister used to have a python. My husband also had quite a few exotic pets when he was younger. I'll forward this discussion to him and he can tell you all about some of the wild and wonderful pets that he used to have, when he still lived in the USA.

when i was little my mother had a monkey. I don't remember what happend to it. i do remember that she loved that monkey. we didn't live here in the states at the time. maybe that's why she had it. it was a small monkey and it couldn't hurt anyone. i have a dog and i love her very much, but i don't have no do i think i want an animal that lives in the forest and jungle. some animals i think should not be used as pets, no matter how cute or smart they are.

No, marciascott, I do not own any exotic pets unless my devil cat, Malleymaria, counts. She thinks we are her people and that we live to serve her. LOL! She is such the princess, really demanding and all, but we love her and can't imagine life without her. As for the chimp that was killed earlier this week, I feel very sad for everyone involved in that situation. I especially feel for the deceased chimp; that was a horrible way for him to go. I do hope that his passing will not be in vein. Maybe people will think twice before they try to take a wild animal and force it to live as a domestic. This is just not smart and it serves no good purpose. My prayers go out to all concerned.

Yes my heart goes out to the people that was involved to, but you just can't trust some of these Animals. You never know when they might turn on you. Have a wonderful day!

Nothing overly exotic. We have zebra finches, cockatiels and fish so far. I will be getting some frogs soon, and maybe some guinea pigs, but not for a little while yet. Having pets is very beneficial to our physical, mental and emotional health. People who have allergies to pets need to experiment and be around the offending pet for a few days and see if the allergy goes, because their immune system has to get used to offending pet first. As for keeping a Chimpanzee, well, I already have 5 of my own as it is!lol. Just a little less hairy and way more vocal.

The most exotic pet I've ever had are tropical fish, lol. But just the normal pet store ones, like angel fish and such. We're not too exotic over here :( We'd love to have a begal kitten though, those things get kinda big, almost like a small/medium dog!

I have a year old skunk named Gacey. I got him when he was just a few weeks old, a rescue from a fur farm.

Never had an exotic pet, we are not allowed to have them here in Montreal, please many of them can be dangerous, like having a pet cougar, even those big snakes.

The closest thing to an exoctic pet that I have owned are chinchillas, hegehogs and some lizards. I have always been fascinated by the wild animals though. Like tigers they are just an awesome creature. I would not say though that I would ever own one. I think that it would not be good for ordinary people to own them.
