Don't brush your teeth (huh?)

This morning I had to tell Cary NOT to brush his teeth. After all the work we did to get him to do it without somebody standing over him, that may seem strange, but we were running late, it was pouring rain and he wanted to still go brush his teeth. He was insisting and I actually had to tell him he'd be in trouble if he went and did that instead of getting in the car. But if I had waited, all three kids would have been late for school. Traffic was really awful. Have you ever had to stop your child from doing the right thing because something else was more important?

Hello, Yes, I think I did this already. But I can not remember the complete details. But after that I have to talk to my kid and tell him the value of time. He should learn that being late in school or appointment is not good also. So he just has to be punctual and divide his time properly so he can do the things he needs to do before going. Have fun

This morning I had him brush his teeth immediately after eating. That didn't stop him from having trouble finding his jacket just as we were leaving though! :-)

parenting isn't it fun. How old is this kid? Can you have the conversation about priorities? How about one for all and all for one. Well good luck.

He's 8, he has autism and he's usually ready on time. But we will have a talk tomorrow at breakfast about brushing his teeth right away instead of waiting.

I can understand you have an unusual problem. I know that habit is very important to these children. There are no easy answers for you just day by day. Blessings

That is one thing I don't do. If it is going to make us late, I still insist on my kids brushing their teeth. It is good that your son wanted to do it regardless of getting in trouble. That shows that you have instilled the importance of this in him.

Today if I had waited for him, all three of them would have been late. His dad will get him to brush his teeth when they get home!

Hi dawny I am sure this has happened on a number of occassions but off the top of my head I can't think of the last time it happened so it hasn't happened recently!! My kids never brush their hair as they are all boys and their hair is so short it wouldn't make a difference!! I have rushed out when one of my kids has needed the bathroom and told them they can go when they get to school because somehow they always get distracted in the bathroom and a simple job seems to turn into a massive situation LOL

It wasn't the hair, it was the teeth. But now I'm making sure he does it before he gets dressed, not after!

Yeah, I've stopped my son from doing that in the mornings when we are running behind. I would rather it be that than him not getting to eat breakfast, or something. Don't worry about it or let it bring you down, stuff that like happens to the best of us.

Oh I'm not worried but I am going to have to stay more on top, he's suddenly taken to dawdling where he didn't used to!
