I have a member in my family that I am totaly embarassed by her when we go to a restaurant she eats with her mouth open. Burps out loud. When we went to a buffett it was absolutly horrible! She made a complete pig out of herself! She freaked out at the waiter because there was no bacon bits left for salad. We go to the mall she will strike up a conversation with anyone that will listen to her. I was talking to a friend of mine that we ran into. She completely butted in and started talking about me right in front of me. Now i wont go anywhere with her! Do you have a family member like this?

My mother embarrases me. She doesn't have excellent table habits and is a pretty messy eater. When she chews, she has a tendency to smack her mouth so she makes a smacking sound with every chew. I try and remind her to chew more with her mouth closed but sometimes that is a lost cause. She also strikes up conversations with everyone and it's always about the strangest things too. It drives me crazy sometimes because I'll be ready to go and she'll start talking about what she bought, why she bought it, that kind of thing. I can't help but thinking, no one cares! She doesn't always understand social norms however. So I try not to get on her case for it so much. She has some learning disablities and people with learning disablities are nice people they're just slow on the up take of societal norms.

Thanks for the responce. My x-mother in law. does teh same thing when she eats but its much worse because she has no teeth in her head! Bad hygine. She always strikes up conversations with anyone. And totaly embarasses me. We were in a lineup one time and a lady in front of us was buying adult underwear as if thats not embarassing enough to the lady. She decided to mention to the lady that a person with bladder problems can get free "diapers" from the center that she works at! And she had no disabilites! Expect being plane rude!

Sounds like a friend I USED to have. That's the problem, you can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family. My family is not all that close, we see each other about 2 x per year. My inlaws, on the other hand, are completely neurotic and worry alot all the time about everything. My mother in law can act bizzarely and be embarassing.

I think alot of us do. although I don't see anything wrong with her starting a conversation with people. it's a good way of meeting and making new friends. it seem she just need to have a little bit more respect for herself and others. when she started talking about you in your face, I hope you spoke up. you should let her know how you feel and she her a video of herself.
