How are you when you are depressed?

I'm not saying that you have a depression problem. But let's just say things haven't been right the whole day, you feel down, regardless what you do nothing seems to be right. Do you ever get that 'down'? If so, what do you usually do? How do you feel? and how do you cope? Me, I'm having those days right now. My whole body seems too tired to do anything and I have a feeling of helplessness. Now, I'm planning to sleep it all out. That's what I do when I'm sad and things just don't go as they should. What do you do?

i really like the way you people treat depression. how i wish that i can do this, too. it so happens that i have been suffering from insomnia for as long as i can remember. too bad for me, eh? now, i can never help it when i come across people who sleeps so soundly without much ado, i always envy their capability or their talent at this easily dozing off to restful sleep.

When I am depressed I am just quiet and withdrawn from everyone and everything. I don't talk much and just kind of mope around the house/room. I listen to music whatever it may be: kutless, spoken, and other bands that I love.

If the reason behind it is something that I can't seem to change anymore or maybe because I can't really find a good explanation behind a certain negative event, I usually cry over it,listen to music, talk to someone..just drown myself up to the point of being tired of it all. Personally, there is such a moment and it'd be my cue to start moving on with my life.

There are two ways to address depression. One is to seek treatment through phycological healing and the other is for self healing. I would opt for the latter. If you are strong enough to handle such a situation on your own, you can overcome this kind of feeling faster. Sometimes you get such feelings when you are physically not feeling too good - i.e. if you are coming down with the flu or something and your whole body tells your mind that you need to shut down all activity for a while. Then there's the emotional attribute that makes you feel depressed due to various factors affecting you. First, DO NOT consider anything a PROBLEM - everything is a SITUATION that needs to be DEALT WITH EFEFECTIVELY. Try not to over hype the situations and feel helpless but look at them in a manner that you could prioritize them and handle them one by one and deal with them and finally solve them. You may even write them down so that you take the burden off your head onto a paper. If you need moral support you may even reach out to those who you can trust to help you find the best solution to any of those situations. But believe me, inaction is not the best solution. If you feel you must sleep it out, you may feel good as you sleep, but then you are going to awake to face the situation that still lingers. However, if the cause of the depression is a physical one, then sleep will be the best solution.

Thanks for the solutions. But which one do you do personally?

Like I have mentioned "the latter" - which is self-healing. I depend on meditation too. It helps a lot.

it is good that you have a very easy way of dealing with depression. sleeping it away will be no problem to indulge in at all. have a good sleep then and be restive for as long as it takes. have beautiful and relaxing dreams as you do so. when i am depressed, i keep on thinking of ways to deal with the problem that has caused it. whenever i do this, i find it best to have some foods around. munching while thinking surely improves my strategic and tactical abilities. since taking too much food in the process will make me too fat than desirable, i have devised a good way to deal with this, too. i will prepare a lot of fibrous fruits and vegetables when moments like this come my way. now, i am no longer as worried as before about adding too much weight when depression strikes. by the way, i am usually depressed because of so many problems to deal with at all times. i maybe happy at most times because, i believe that life is a matter of attitude.

It's good that you have devised a scheme so as not to each too much that's bad for you. It's a good idea that you store up fibers and fruits. I think life is like that, we can't all be happy always. Too bad, there are so much things in life to be happy about.

whenever i'm depressed..i'd rather be alone..i don't want to talk to anybody..i want to be quiet and stay as far away from other people..normally..i would take a long walk home..instead of riding any vehicle just to give me more time to think and analyze the things..coz the moment i got home..i don't want to show them that i'm having some sort of problem as not to make everyone worried..

Wow, that's exactly what I also do. I don't want my family to know I'm depressed or hurt, that's why I try my best not to let them see that I'm sad. Usually I cry in my room and wash my face so that when I'm about to be with my family members, they won't see that I'm deeply depressed and hurt. It's tough really. But it's better that they don't know.

You my friend have the tell tale signs of depression. If you're not careful it could get serious. The signs are all there. And yes I have been depressed alot. My life was very difficult. I didnt do things in the order my parents wouldve liked. My dad made sure that I knew everyday of my life. I picked the wrong men. And so on. I began to feel as if I didnt matter. If I were to die tomorrow I dont think it would upset many people or I wouldnt be missed. Thats what I would think to myself. One day I realized that I was wasting alot of time dwelling on other peoples issues and needed to make me happy. That's what I did. I cut myself off from all those so called friends that were literally sucking the life out of me. I started to put myself first. Now a days I still get depressed. When I do, I do different things to keep myself busy. If something really bothers me I go to my room get under my covers and have a good cry. When I am done, The issue is done. I throw it away. Try to keep your head up. If people are making you unhappy, stay away for a few days to see if it helps you. If it does then you kjnow what you have to do. Good luck Laydee. dl

Thanks for the advice, I think your scheme is much better. I should feel better after a good cry and I should just stop worrying too much about others and stop attaching my happiness with them. Thanks for the response!

Always remember that your are not alone. If I had a dollar for everyone I tried to live thru. Then one day someone said "What about you?" I couldnt answer. I had been living thru everyone else's happiness that I forgot about my own. Trust me you'll feel better when you do you. I make sure that I set time out every week for me. I do my nails, tan or what ever I feel. I call it my day of beauty. You should try it. If you need to talk, I am here. dl

I'm a bit depress right now. But instead of wallowing in it, I try to express it by writing a poem. Or just by doing mylot. It surprises me that a lot of discussions that I'm responding to is squeezing out how I feel for a few days now. Mylot is a great way of expressing how you feel.

I get that way every now and then and I get it bad. I eat more than I already do and tend to pull away from everyone and everything. I sit and listen to depressing music or in complete silence (which is weird for me because I always have music going). It takes me forever to get myself out of it and I hate when it happens. I just got over a bout because of friend and family issues but music and my few loyal friends and my aunt yanked me out just when I was considering dropping out of college with only a year left.

Yeah, tell me about it. It's weird really because it often just makes you feel you have nothing good ever coming and that it's better if you just sat still or stayed in bed till you die.

actually what i always do when i'm feeling down is that i will online. that is the only thing i love to do so much that i could forget everything (including my meals & bath!). i can't sleep well when i'm sad & things don't go as they should. in fact, i can't even sleep or do other things because i will keep thinking about the sad things.

I agree with my friends but sometime we cann't sleep in depression. I think the solution of worry is keep busy yourself in any other activity like go for a long walk, watch any comedy or lite movie, go to holly place and can do meditation for sometime. If after all these activities you are still depressed then you can try another formula, get alone like in a locked room or in the car you can shout as much high as u can. your depression will be removed. Just try it.

Oh yeah, you're right, these 'diversions' are good too when depressed. But for me, I can't seem to want to move when I'm depressed. Though, I know it's a state of mind. Perhaps we should just shout to ourselves, 'STOP BEING A BABY!'

Since depression has become a frequent affair I find little anxious about it affecting my person too much.None of us can avert depression fully, it is upto the wise to cope up with such onset with equanimity.

Yes, sleeping the pain, anxiety and stress off works wonders for me as well. When I am very depressed, I will just be in silence, I like for my surroundings to be very quiet. I like to be able to talk to someone and vent my stress to them. My problems will now become God's. That is when I turn it all over to him. I also enjoy listening to Gospel music, this helps ease my pain too. It keeps my mind off of my pain and turmoil. I also enjoy listening to others problems, it makes me feel better that I am not alone, in going through trials and tribulations. There are other people just like me that experience hardships in their lives.

Hello there laydee. I do have depressions and I am so stressed right now, Lot of school works to do these days that I need to submit this and that. I really need to manage my time that sometimes I get to the point that I feel sick and stuff. To escape away from my depression, I also offer time for myself. I do sleep, do entertainment stuff, and my daily routine. I know that my body also needs time to rest because I don't want to have a breakdown. Sometimes, I also talk to my friends, hangout with them, they are my sweet escapes.
