Do you enjoy Carnival? or is just another party time you hope passes as soon as possible? Till a few years ago, when I have no children of my own, I didn't like Carnival too much. Here, in Portugal, people do some tricky things, like throwing rotten eggs, baking powder, urine, etc, over the people who is passing by. Those are things that bore me profoundly. But now, with my children, I discovered a new facet of the Carnival: the masks, the colorful and funny masks of animals, plants, things... They' re so cute inside their masks... Tell me what you use to do in your countries. Are there parades of masked people, as here?

Carnival in Portugal must be a very exciting and colourful time, especially with the Brazillian connection...its a shame about the rotten eggs and urine though, yuk. I live in London UK, and ever year at the end of August, we have the Nottinghill Carnival. It is such a colourful event, they play calypso, reggae, salsa, meringue and hot music like that. The combination of the colour, costumes, music, people from all over the world, fabulous food, the warm weather and all over three days, to me is a marvelous thing that I really look forward to each year. There is only one problem with it, sometimes it is much to crowded...many people in tight spaces make me feel a little claustrophobic. In general I love carnival, one day I hope and pray that I will be able to go to the carnival in Rio or in Trinidad, I hear both these are fabulous.

This festival seems to be fun, and in August is much warmer than in February. I hope it won't rain here, so that children can play in the street. Last year rained a lot and they had to stay in a covered park. Thanks for sharing. Have a beautiful day.
