Does anyone go out to the movie theater anymore? We don't for a variety of reasons and I was just wondering if anyone still does... let me know. First of all the theater is about a half hour away from our home. Then you have the cost of the tickets, the food and drinks and babysitter. It's just much easier and cheaper to rent a movie at home. What do you do?

I don't go to the movie theater anymore. Because the nearest and good cinema is 6 miles away from me. Going to the cinema means I have to pay30.00 to 40.00yuan, that's around 6$ to buy one ticket. after the movie, I must have a meal, that's more or less the same amount of the ticket. If it is cold, I have to taxi home. so altogether, it's around 60.00 (10$). More important, the films showed on the theatre are all old ones. one can expect at most 2 excellent movies throughout a year because the cinema can not afford to buy the copy of the movie.

For us it is just cheaper and easier to stay at home. We've a nice television, lots of movies, plus on-demand. We typically get the kids to sleep, pour a drink, and watch a movie together. We have gone to the movie theatre a few times, especially to see things that just need to be seen on the big screen, but not often. It's just too costly. It would be nice to eventually be in a mother's circle that could share the sitting so we could all get date nights, but unfortunately there are not that many pagan mommies in my neck of the woods.

It sounds like a nice evening even if not going out...and yes some movies just have to be seen on the big screen. My husband actually went to see a movie recently and said it was fabulous on the big screen. I was happy to stay home and let him have some friend time. He does the same for me. The mother's circle sounds wonderful - I hope you get one started soon! Thanks for the response.

I sometimes do.But its so expensive, usually I just wait for it to come on DVD or preview channel or pay per view . I love pay per view, you get to see really hot movies almost as soon as they are released. You can watch them in your underwear eating popcorn and no one would no. Not that I have done it but I'm just saying.

LOL! We haven't watched movies in our underwear but certainly in our pajamas. We also just wait for it to come out on DVD which is usually not very long at all.

Wow, I can't even remember the last time we went to the movie theater. Actually, I can't remember the last time we've even rented a movie. We live in a rural area, so we have to travel about 25 miles to the nearest town (well the nearest town with a theater) to be able to go to the theater. Usually if we want to watch any new movies, we wait for them to come out on video, then we buy several at one time.

That is a far drive just to see a movie! I understand why you would wait for them to come out on video and then buy them. That's something which we haven't really done but I suspect as my son gets older we will be doing. For now I think we're safe from the kiddie videos... Thanks for the response!

I go to the cinema still. I go on days when popcorn and candy costs less when I use my club card.We make it a date night.

My family and I havent' been to the movie theater in years. It cost to much for us to go out and view a movie together, and finding a baby sitter to be able to cut down on the cost at the movie theater is very hard to do. We also aren't very keen on going because it's sometimes hard to hear, if you have to potty it's either hold it and be uncomfortable, or go and miss some of the movie. We would rather rent and stay at home and watch it at our own pace. Though we may be a few weeks, months or sometimes years behind on seeing movies, but we don't care.

I agree - it simply costs too much. The only babysitters we'd feel comfortable with are my family members and we rely on them during the week when we're working. So it's just easier to rent and stay home. Of course watching at home for us usually means watching over a couple of days... Thanks for the response!

I pretty much quit going to the theaters. We used to have one in our home town; since it's closed it would be quite a travel to get to the nearest theater. While it's great to see that movie on a giant screen, it has become so expensive just to get in...not to mention the popcorn, drinks, and all lol. Then too at the theaters, I always seemed to be sitting right next to somebody who was chattering away during the whole thing...or worse, they had seen the movie and give a running narrative on it. Anymore I just wait until they're released and then rent them. I do think though, that it's a nice 'date' for couples, and that in itself still makes it a special activity.

The somebody who is chattering away during the whole thing is my husband...so thank goodness for closed captioning! Of course he wouldn't dare do the same in the theater and it was nice while we were dating it's simply not feasible anymore. Thanks for the response!

That's really great! My son is way too young to take with us to the movies but I hope to do so when he gets older.

Yeah, but the number of people going to the movie theater has lessen. Why ? because of crisis of financial problems. Watching over the DVD is more practical for you should just rent/buy DVD movies. You can even fix your own snacks and watch at ease.
