Attorney General Eric Holder calls us a nation of cowards

AG holder call the US a nation of cowards when it comes to race relations. He says that while work places are integrated, that people private lives are not (weekends and off work time). What do you think of his comments? Is it really any of the gov. business who we the general public decide to spend our weekends and private time with? Doesn't he have more important things to worry about right now? Tell me what you think.

If he is refering to whites not spending time with blacks then he better include the fact that blacks choose not to spend time with whites and orientals choose not to spend time with whites and other groups tend to choose not to spend time with whites. White people are not all that popular with other races, creeds, and religions. And that is a fact!! Ask them!! Whites, Blacks, Orientals, Etc tend to party differently. Is there something wrong with that? Shalom~Adoniah

Excellent point, Adoniah! Hey there, nice to hear from you! Add to your point the reality that there are many areas of the country where all races are not present. It would seem that Mr. Holder would like for us to abandon our own lives, and take our nuclear and extended families to multi-cultural epicenters on the weekends. Oh wait, how would the chores get done if we did as he suggests? Drats, there go the property values, since no one will be home to mow the lawns. So much for real property economic recovery, huh? Perhaps this is a business opportunity in disguise -- "Weekend Minority Rentals". Hmmm, I wonder if Holder's vision also extends to Blacks who don't hang out with Whites on the weekend? Or, Blacks who don't hang out with Hispanics or Native Americans on the weekend? Or Native Americans who don't hang out with Asians or Blacks on the weekend? Or Asians who don't hang out with Hispanics or Whites on the weekend? Or maybe we can get the religious issue in here too, whad'ya think? "Weekend Religious Exposure Rentals" where one can 'rent a jew', or 'rent a Pentacostal', or 'rent a Pagan'. Hmmm, the more I think about it, it would seem that Holder's 'great wisdom' serves to do nothing but trivialize Human Beings, doesn't it? Maybe we ought to bury Holder's contribution way in the back of the warehouse, with all the rest of the monumentally stupid quotes that our leaders have spewed. In case anyone missed it: (Sarcasm is definitely ON).

Maybe we should tell Mr Holder to change the definition of the word weekend. Since Observant Jews can't "Hang Out" on Saturday anyway as it is the Sabbath, and most of the things that the rest of the world does on the "weekend" an Observant Jew cannot do on the Sabbath. Does that make them "Racist" or the rest of the world "Racist"? Shalom

They're probably gonna pass a law saying you have to spend a Saturday or Sunday (church doesn't count) with a black person. That is gonna cause a big demand on black people because they only make up 15 percent of the population. There is not just enough to go around. I grew up in El Paso, Texas. Half Of my families good friends were Hispanic. Or does the AG have somebody specific for me to hang out with.

What are going to do assign us a "race buddy" and if we don't spend time with that person the "race people" will come and get us?

Hilarious, but don't say that too loud. They might try to take it onboard.

Lilwonders, when it comes to individuals like Eric Holder we do not have private lives. Your right, our private lives are just that private, but with the power of government growing private must shrink. I must go back to my rope theory, you stretch a piece of rope in a straight line, draw a line in the ground in the middle, then pull the rope in one direction. What do you have, more rope on one side of the middle, less on the other. Well the same is what we have here government power grows while at the same time private rights are shrinking. Of course Eric Holder has more important things to worry about, but when did that matter.

Hello Lilwonders, What do I think? Well, based on Holder's statement and the verifiable history of government's propensity to enact punitive legislation, I would not be the least bit surprised if at some point in the future our citizens are taxed disproportionately based on how "diverse" their lives are. Geesh, they're fighting now to have live, 24x7 communication access to our medical practitioners (as part of the health care initiatives tucked into the "stimulus" bill), and they're fighting now to have 24x7 live access to monitor our driving habits (Oregon's plan to tax drivers based on miles driven rather than per gallon of fuel), so why not 24x7 monitoring of who we interract with??? “When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.” - Thomas Jefferson

I agree. It seems the want to monitor and dicate our lives. At some point you would think that the majority of people would stand up and say back off.

What a jerk. Our personal lives are NONE of his or anyone else's business. This reminds me of something that happened at my library a few years back where I saw two people having a conversation. The woman was speaking rather loudly so I politely asked them to keep their voices down a bit. 10 minutes later she came to me and told me how horrible it was that I "ambushed" them and told them to keep their voices down. I explained that I did not ambush them and that they are free to have their conversation so long as it is at a low volume. She then announced "I am a white woman and I was speaking with a black man. How often do you see that in today's society? You should have left us alone." This got me rather speechless since This was an area with many interracial couples and such, but she was old so maybe she didn't realize what decade she was living in. Basically she was acting as though she had done her good deed for the day by talking to a black man. This is the type of patronizing attitude that would be encouraged by Eric Holder's statements.

Is this serious? Why is the attorney general of the United States getting involved in race relations? I don't want this government getting involved in our lives any more than it already has. Most people spend time with their family and friends on the weekends. So the government is now going to dictate how we spend our free time - who our family and friends should be and where we live? This is enough already.

All I have to say is that the man made a comment. After all this is a discussion board so why wouldn't the man be able to voice his opinion we all give opinions and observe things everyday. Now everyone is thinking that they will be forced to hang with other nationalities on their time off. lol. Who said it is just whites not hanging with blacks perhaps it is blacks not hanging with whites, or chinese not hanging with indians. Although I think his perception is really far off since I live in a very diverse community and everyone is chumming and helping everyone. Facts are facts we have communities of single nationalities all over the US. What I would say is that Mr Holder is a coward, after all he has what I would call a phobia of middleclass and poor people. After all why would they have to live in million dollar homes and have their own community themselves? We can make statement after statement but one should not call the kettle black if he is living in a circle of his own. BUT he has the right to his opinion as I just had the right to mine. As I once told a LT in the Army when he told me that I did not qualify for a 3 bedroom apartment because my husband was an E3, "Listen my husband is over in the Gulf rubbing a$$es with Generals his rank has nothing to do with it" The genral put him in check really quick, at that point I was given a 4 bedroom with apologies and he was ordered to help me to pack and move our belongings. Sometimes peoples heads get so big they forget why we are all hear in the United States.

Possible, some people have private feelings about race. I think this is on all sides of the coin. Some people do not see color some do. I have known people that will be very nice and polite in public and have reservsations in private. I have known some of these people in past years. Thjey are not agressive people or militent in any way they have preference. I feel that it is a good thing to gt beyond it and realize we are all one. That is me though it may not be that easy for other. I also do not thing the government needs to have it's business in ours. Isn't that the big brother thing all over again.....I thought we got past that.
