Hi, i am a member here for quite some time now.i belong to a non english speaking region. so my english is not like the native english speaking people.as a result i am receiving only few response to my discussions.only the few generous english speaking members are contributing to the discussions (most of them are in my friends list).in the beginning i thought people are choosing the topics according to their interest. well, my lot has done extremely good to invite all the international people to join the community.but i think because of poor response from the majority of members here quite a few of them don't really hesitate to leave the community early... have you ever felt like this here?what are your view points about this topic.i guess this won't start anything serious over here...

I disagree. It is good that they invite non-native speakers, but it has nothing to do with your being non-native why you don't get responses. I am a native english speaker and I get anywhere from 0 to 5 responses on almost every discussion, ones getting more than that being the exception, not the rule. At the same time, I have seen people that are clearly non-native english speakers have discussions in the top discussions page with 20, 30, 40 or more responses, sometimes even over 100, and their discussions sitting within the top couple of pages for several days before finally fading into the background. It is however true that people typically respond to their friends first. I have seen several people say they have done this. Therefore, I think it is important to get a lot of active friends who share your interests. That way, when they visit their 'Discussions my friends started' section, if they have similar intersts to you they will see your discussions and reply to them. I still need quite a few more active friends. Probably more than half of mine are inactive. If I can do that, I think I might get a few more replies. Don't let it discourage you though. The way I see it if I can entertain or inform just one person then I have done my job.

No problem. Sometimes we all just need a little bit of encouragement. Even if I never get a lot of responses I'll be fine if I can appeal to a small handful of people. I was a member of this site 2 years ago under a different username and was a bit more well known so back then I was getting consistantly at least 10 responses, often over 20 and sometimes over 40, and on the extremely rare occasion one or two discussions with over 100 responses. Now that's next to impossible for me. Well, that user tended to get most of their responses when it got to over 1000 posts too as more people recognized the username and I had had enough time to get more friends who shared similar intersts. I really think that is the key. I wish I still had that username in a way.

i think if you have lots friends here.then you have to respond a lot everyday. and probably it will take a lot time...if you won't response to some of them then they might turn their back towards you...so how do you manage all these?...

Everyone of us here has its own reason why we choose such topics to respond. Like me, i pick your topic to respond because it caught my attention and i have some ideas to share. It really happened like this all the time. You tend to pick topic which you think it strike and you yourself also encounter such instances.

I would have never guessed that you are from a non english region. I think your english is very good and that is not the reason for no responses. Do you actively respond to others discussions? Are you getting out there and letting people to get to know you? How many friends do you have in your friend list? the more friends the more responses. For every response you get your discussion gets back to the top of the list so more non friends will also see it. What do you consider a little bit of responses? I have been here forever it seems like and most of my discussions I start don't get much for responses. I think I only have 2 that ever made it to 5 pages. The rest maybe 2 pages. It is very hard to get lots of responses and it isn't something you should let discourage you. Try talking about your daily life. Things that have happen to you, experiences. Need help with something ask us all for help. It seems those kind of discussions get more responses than just common questions that pop into your head.

thanks for those kind words...no i'm not active in responding to others discussions.so, it may be a reason for not getting many responses for mine...i'm not sure that i would get some good responses about my daily life...it's not unusual one... i'm getting you point.so i think people like those which catches most for a topic to discuss...thanks for responding... i think this one has come up to 3 now...otherwise rest are dying in page 1...

Well I have to say that for the most part if I have trouble understanding what the person is writting, I won't vote for them. It is nothing against you personally it's just that if the quality of writting is poor, then you usually get a poor response. There are a number of sites out there that can help improve you english and writting if that seems like something that you are interested in. I hope that you have better luck and continue to try your best.

Okay, that's odd that you say that. A lot of non-native english speakers i have met on here say they come HERE to improve their english. I have no quams about replying to them if I can figure out what they are saying. Even if their english is a little broken, I still reply. However, I don't alter my speech, or in this case writing at all. I figure for a non-native speaker to learn how to speak proper english, they must hear and read it used properly by native speakers. And so, I choose to write normally.

I agree. As long as we can understand, there's no problemo. A discussion has nothing to do with English, and i do believe mylot doesn't discourage people who don't speak good English either. As long as we can grasp the substance of the discussion, i'm ready to reply.

WOW...I think that is harsh unless you are marking an english test...If anything, the ones trying to speak english and contribute, should get higher marks for trying, not lower marks because their english isnt perfect. The best way to learn is not through some english site, but to interact with people who speak the language. Maybe I have misunderstood you but that sounds a little mean and unaccepting of those whose english is not perfect.

Hi Sunil...for a non english speaking region, you do very well. I can almost hear you talk through how you write and its pretty cool..How did you learn english?...School or by going to an english speaking country? Well I am completely english speaking and I dont get that many responses either. SOmetimes I think it depends on what time of day you are on here and who you get to know. Dont worry, as long as you are on here, I will always be a pest and answer your discussions when I can...lol..I even told my hubby about me not being the submissive one as an aquarian...he got a good chuckle out of that one!!...

While I can be very verbal about the deliberate use of profanity and outright rudeness on the lot, and have been accused because of it, of being 'mean' to people whose first language isn't English, the truth is, I don't care how good or bad your English is. Not everyone is an experienced writer and therefore there is going to be wide range of expression here. What mylotters need to do is stop being so sensitive, less judgmental, and learn to READ more comprehensively in order to widen their range of discussions they reply to. Some of the best people here are not English scholars and I would miss them terribly if they should leave simply because a number of narrow minded people don't think what they have to say is worthwhile.

I think a little over 45% of the mylot population is from non-english speaking states and countries. I'm from the same country as you. But it isn't because of your english that you're not receiving responses, but because your discussions lack exposure. I'm the same, i get only a few responses. But i enjoy mylotting and replying to to others discussions, i cant quit. Happy mylotting

I have never thought of it as English speaking or non English speaking people. i have always felt as much as home as anyone else. In fact i get responses according to the discussion i start. If the discussion is interesting and appeals to people, they respond, no matter what their nationality or native language. Similarly I respond to all discussions without seeing the nationality of the person. i often do not even see the name of the person who has started the discussion. I just see the quality of the discussion. individuals and personalities do not really matter.

Its not about the English buddy, Its about what you have to say. Just ask yourself, If u like the topic, will you refrain from responding only because the discussion starter has bad english ? I think I respond to a discussion if I like the topic or if I have something different to say about the topic... Happy mylotting buddy...

Hello sunil_008! I am from the Philippines too and I am not a native english speaker. I don't think people will not reply to you because you are asian or not. So far so good, I have some good amounts of responses on my discussion. I guess it really depends on the time you posted your discussion and the exposure of your discussion. I even respond to one of your discussion, right?

Hi sunil! I think it takes time to get established in the mylot community. The more friends you add,the better the turn out on your discussions. Some of my discussions that I thought would be good have turned out to be flops while others I thought wouldn't do well have done great. There are alot of people here from your country too and sometimes there may be a language barrier. Heads up though...as you accumulate friends..you'll also accumulate responses. I hope your not considering leaving early. I appreciate your responses and enjoy your posts. Take care.

Just hang in there and keep posting. Send friend requests to those that give you interesting responses and answer as many discussions as possible. The more active you are the more friend requests you'll receive. If you don't understand a response or discussion just ask them and most all the people here are good enough to repeat without being irritated and if they don't understand your response and ask you..practice the same courtesy. I think that we all have so much to offer each other here that it would be a shame to let the language or cultural differences get in the way.

although your english is not excellent, it is not so bad either. i could understand what you are trying to say. i do not think that the poor response has something to do with your english. you should try posting topics that interest most people if you want to get lots of response. it would also help if you have may friends because it is easier to keep track of the topics started out by your friends.

I think we native speakers of English should be glad where non-native speakers are able to write well enough for us to understand. But native speakers of the language should endeavour to write as well as they can in order to provide examples of good English for those that are learning. all the best urban

Hi sunil...I really don't think it matters to most of us where you are from and how well you write English. Some of the English speaking people here write terribly, have many typos and spell worse. They are lazy and do not check their work before they post. Your post isn't too bad at all. I think it polite however to comment to at least some of the people who have responded to you. We might think you have posted your discussion and are not bothered to read what we write back to you.
