Animal Experimentation.. Is it right?

All of us know, for centuries, we as human have been experimenting with animals.. For understanding more on animals themselves, and to test substances to see whether they are harmful to the animals. (All of us know the term, guinea pig, right) We have test cosmetic products (Yes, we do) medicines, and surgical techniques, (this really irks me) on animals.. Do you think that it's right? Personally, i feel that although the testing on animals is to the benefits of humans, we could maybe even discover cure for cancer, AIDS, with improved surgical techniques, but i still feel that its wrong. Animals are living beings, they have a life of their own, to eat them is already cruel enough, and to perform experiments on them so that they will die or survive miserably? At the bigger picture, i agree that its the benefit of all human race, but how many of these animals would have sacrifice in the process? I'm not talking about one or two here.. .

I don't agree with animal testing. even if you can turn away from the fact that the procedures are inhumane, it's also unreliable. if we tested penecillin on guinea pigs, would it have reached human use? probably not. it kills guinea pigs. rats are far more prone to cancers than mice. if they are so very different, then how can any animal test be considered accurate for humans? after all, rats and mice are very nearly the same. no other ape is as close to us as they are to each other, and they are worlds apart in response to outside stimuli. I don't think animal testing is humane or informative enough to justify the suffering it causes.

But as one of the mylotter above mentioned, if we dont test on animals, what can we do to improve the medical advancement? Test on human subjects? Animal testing VS Human testing, i will definitely support Animal testing if i'm left with no other choices... Sigh.. its kinda tough choice to make..

well, if you encourage human experimentation, i would 100% disagreed with that.. it's going to be much more cruel then animals testing in my eyes.

It's easy to say don't use animals for testing, but what if it were your child dying of cystic fibrosis? For me personally, I think certain types of animal testing should be absolutely banned. I'm talking about testing for optional or luxury products such as cosmetics, candies, etc. When it comes down to medicine, I have mixed feelings. I would reluctantly say that as long as the animals are treated as humanely as possibly, I'm not totally opposed to animal testing of medical treatments that could potentially save human lives.

And yes, it depends on how useful is the output to humans.. maybe you are right, if i have a child dying of cystic fibrosis, i probably wouldn't give a thought about the animals at that point of time.. selfish i am.. but guess this is human nature.

I dont feel testing on animals is good. Because we are not like animals. Do you know that chocolate or onion or asperin can kill a cat or a dog but to us its benificial? What works for us may not work for animals and what works for animals may not work for us.

I agreed that what work for animals may not work for us, and vice versa.. But there is hard evidence and proof that animal experiments since ages ago have proof useful in some of our current products and medication.. Even Surgical Techniques can be explored through animal experimentation.. =.="" Gross..

While I understand the need to test on animals, I still don't like it. I hate the fact that in order to figure out these things, we have to use poor defensless animals to get to those means. If there was a way to test those things without using animals I would be very happy. Until then, I unfortunately have to turn a blind eye to it because the research that they provide is necessary to further development of medications and other such things.

I agree with you, no matter how much we hate it, i believe that its still going on, someplace, somewhere in this world.. We aren't really left with a choice. The choice we could make is Spare the animals VS Stop advancement in the human world.

I love animals but I am so sorry that we dissect a number of tetrapods and mammals and birds every week. (That's what we do in my college) It's comparative anatomy and we don't call using them as "killing" them we us the term "Sacrificing". We don't kill animals but we "Sacrifice" them to learn and to be more aware and of course when we graduate you'll be thanking us too because we are going to take care of you. (My course is Physical Therapy) The more we know the more you get safe. The more the doctors know the lesser that sickness will appear. Then again, I am not against what you guys think. Animals should be loved and cared for but I am just making it clear that I myself don't like the manner of experimenting on animals but we have no other choice...If there was..animal experimentation should have been stopped long ago.

You are not wrong in saying so.. Although the term sacrifice you made means taking away the animal's life.. (i hope it's not a cruel way) it do in turns benefit the human world.. But.. is their life nothing? Just because of human world? Because we are the only intelligent beings?

Hope you would know better that animal testing is cruel, but cannot be banned...if at all banned, then some years later, all the living things on earth would have perished and nothing left to either experiment or to live, this is kind of life's theory i guess, in order to gain something, you got to lose something

This is what triggered my emotion.. We know that animal experiments are cruel, but yet essential for our scientific or medical advancement.. ..

Hey allentcl82, some animals most especially "rats" are easy to handle because they are so small and they don't take up much more experimental on it compared to humans hahahaha... But seriously, it would be dangerous if you experimented directly to humans. If you're not aware of the accidental experiment of one person not to mention the exact case, had gone through the process of legal case. So the best way to experiment your newly invented products would be animals. I think it's better to experiment the animals rather than directly to humans. Hope my answers are clear. Have a happy MyLotting my friend :)

Thanks Julie my friend, Yes, you have made your point clear and i really doesn't know which side to support in this case.. lol, maybe i will just be a neutral party in this discussion, but more of me is sliding in supporting animal rights though.. .
