Unhealthy lifestyles double the risk of a stroke.

Smoking, drinking too much alcohol, not taking enough exercise and eating few vegetables and little fruit contribute to the chances of a stroke. It's the third biggest killer and if it doesn't kill it can leave you severely disabled. However, even small changes to our lifestyle factors, such as an improved diet, drinking alcohol in moderation, not smoking and being active, can reduce your risk of stroke. Oh lord, it's time for us all to adjust our unhealthy lifestyle.

i had a stroke , will be 5 years in june. i was very fortunate to yhave come through it fairly good. i do smoke, i do not drink , i do eat alot of veggies & fruit, i do not get enough exercise because i have arthritus ^ degenerative disc disease in my back so i can't walk for long & do exercises.i'm blessed to have come out of the stroke as well as i did. i did have to have cartoid surgery 2 weeks after the stroke.

You are right! I have started to do light exercises, like walking. But I really need to think of a balanced diet. High time I stop eating too much meat and ignoring fruits and veggies...

smoking raises the blood preasure and to much alccohol give you rose liver plus it slows the flow of blood to the heart and brain cauing a stroke.depending how bad the effect of the stroke it can be disabling.small changes can make all the different in the world.
