Fasting

I am fasting this coming weekend. The first day will be Thursday, and I will not eat except light foods (unleavened bread) as I will pass out if I don't. The following two days will also being a talking fast, so I will not speak a word, a "Vow of Silence." Here is where my problem lies, I believe in the concept of fasting, and the benefits and everything you can get from it. And although the bible calls us to fast, it's just very hard to do, and I feel very wrong doing it as I am not ready, my heart is not into it and I'm seeking to get anything out of it. Is it worth it to go through with the fast and hope to get something out of it, or to just wait until I am ready?

hi! so nice to hear that you are fasting, just read your message and i really have to check first when did you post this to know if i made it before your fasting day, which i think i do. anyway my thoughts about fasting used to be similar like yours, its more of praying for something and thinking that God would favor for it more if i will fast. i fasted couple of times (twice to be exact) and ending up regretting that i was unable to made it through until my target date. by now, the first reason why i fast is completely forgotten, i really can't remeber it. the second reason is still fresh since i just did it last month..... my point here is, if you are fasting for the sake of your prayers (especially material gain), you will just end up exhausting yourself..... my sister once told me that she fasted to have a better relationship with God, because she thinks that if she would have a better relationship first.....then she will always be under the provision of God. Matthew 6:33 "But seek first HIs kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." God knows what are the desires of your heart but all he want first is seek Him first.....so for me....i still suggest that you fast but reflect on your heart and listen to what it was saying to you rather than telling yourself that your fasting because you want to have something... by the way i have a question......what are the other ways to fast except food fasting? you've already mentioned one like not talking...can you mention some more so i would know? thanks and stay blessed!

Fasting is simply denying yourself specifically your body and strengthening your spirit. Don't do anything that don't include your heart especially for God because it is just vanity to do it for your own gain. I go through fasting once or twice a week. And I can say that it is really worth it. The enemy is being alarmed because of the strengthening my spirit and also because the purpose of the fast is being accomplished. Don't fast if you don't have a purpose. Ask God for a purpose that fasting will be needed like for example in spiritual warfare.
