How do you think outside of the box ?

We mostly assume this to be creative and open minded in our thinking. At the same time how well do we understand the "box" ? If the box is built out of our preconcieved ideas and assumptions, in what ways do you go about breaking away from them ? And what helps or stimulates you to think creatively and differently ?

If you have a problem to solve, you set about it by considering the options that you have heard before, which quite often will work, but sometimes you can think of it in a way that most people wouldn't think of. It's a matter of looking at something from a different angle. I'm trying to think of an example ...I've got one. A while ago, I wanted room to store some things in, but had no available cupboard, so I thought of getting a wooden box, but then thought well if I get a box where would I put it without blocking a doorway or cupboard door? At this point I could have given up on the idea, but then I thought, I'll put some wheels on the box, so that it can be easily moved - works perfectly. I know this doesn't solve everything, but it's easy to give up on an idea if you don't think of it from every possible angle.

It does not solve everything, but certainly makes things a lot simpler. The wheels idea was great and thanks for sharing this.
