When holding parties in your house, do you do the cooking yourself or have it catered and why?

I love to cook & entertain guest at home. When guests are coming over, I geat really excited and I get so engrossed in planning and shopping. Yeah it can be exhausting but I guess my passion overpowers the exhaustion. I like to plan things and distribute the work in different days. For instance, party is gonna be on Saturday. I do all the planning of menu and making a grocery list on Tuesday, do the shopping on Wednesday, clean up the house & make all the non-food preps on Thursday. I'll do all the chopping, marinating and baking cakes that needs to be cool down before frosting on Friday. And finally, I get up early on Saturday, do the cooking a few hours in advance and kept them warm in the oven, or just reheat them when the guest arrives. However, i can only cook for a certain number of guests. If I will be expecting 50 or more, well our space cannot accomodate people that many. That calls for a retaurant party or a catered party in some nice garden =)

Hi there,,,, It would depend on the size of the crowd that is coming to the party ,but i guess it would usually be large ,so i would best leave it to catering ,cause there is no worry about the lack of time and the stress in cooking the meal.Incase something goes wrong also there is good backup by these catering people. Also there are many cateres around ,which gives us the choices on a wider areas llke varieties and the services they offer. If at all you are planning for one, better get suggestions from your friends as to which would be a better catering services. Cheers

Im still living at ome and do alot of cooking for my parents and others. When my parents through parties they usually do all the cooking. They like to cook and bake and enjoy there time in the kitchen. I really never see catering at my house that really doesnt exist to much around my family. If anything they will go and buy the circle sandwich platters and vegetable platters but thats about it and they will do all the rest of everything.

I do a bit of both since doing it all myself would be rather difficult. I'd make whatever appetizers meals I could, and whatever I couldn't, I'd use catering. Making it yourself is cheaper, but that doesn't always mean better. For smaller parties, I'd do it myself, but for bigger ones, I'd go for a catering service.

Most of my friends don't cook so they eat out a lot. So, whenever I have a party I always do all the cooking because my friends like having a home-cooked meal once in awhile! It's kind of tiring to cook that much food but it's definitely a lot of fun.
