Is there a particular talent or gift that you really wish you had?

I'm quite happy really about the things that I am capable of doing, and also happy to accept that there are things that I'm never going to be any good at - with one exception - cooking. I can cook basic things, but I can't cook cakes. I am 49, and have tried so many times to bake cakes, as I love eating them, but mine have always turned out to be complete disasters! I've had many people trying to teach me over the years, many cookbooks, and many helpful hints, but it makes no difference. Baking cakes is a talent I haven't got. Is there something you wish you were good at?

I was about to say "better skills with people"...but those who know me'd insist m skills in that area are fine. I'd disagree, but whatever, so I'm trying to think of something else, now xD I wish I knew how to ride a horse. Yeah, that's what I pick, horseback riding xD Granted, I never had a chance to learn...but that's what I wish I could do. Don't worry, Kats! Things change, I never used to be able to bake cakes either...I could cook almost anything else, but not cakes...and now, suddenly, I can make cakes. Maybe someday you'll wake upwith the ability...or maybe you'll come across a show which will create an epiphany or something...there's always time to learn how to do something, after all =)

When I see other people cooking, they seem to do it naturally - for instance they can have a conversation at the same time!

There are some things im really good at and then there are some things im not so good at. Since im a pretty good dancer and i hear it alot i wishi could sing so that i could be a artist and make good money and i have said that alot. Other things im good at that i know some people arent and that would like to be are cooking, cleaning, shopping, fashion, being good in math, and there are some more. I know alot of people who arent very good at cooking, cleaning and so on, so im sure there are people who wish they were good at that.

Well it sounds as though you are good at a lot of things, so you are very lucky, but singing is a talent you either have or haven't got. Although if you can sing a bit, it might be possible to improve.

I wanna bake too but one thing I really wish I know how to do is playing the piano; I just think that it's so cool when you know how to play one. Right now, I really have to time to learn something like that but I wish someday I will have the opportunity. Also, playing the violin, too. I'm not good in singing but I'm a music lover and an artist, I know how to draw but I also wish I know how to play instruments.

Same as you, I am so frustrated because I don't know how to cook and bake! i hope I have the skills and the perseverance to learn how to do those things but I just can't and I don't have the talent and patience! I also have this problem that whenever i cook, I can't seem to eat the one I just prepared. I feel that its raw so there's always a tendency that i overcook it!

Hey there! I don't think cooking is hard to learn. How many times have you tried baking? maybe you forgot something your friends taught you. Well I'm not good at cooking too. lol. One talent I wish I have is singing. I love singing. Although I have some talent in singing in fact I am a member of our school choir and I am one of the best bass singer that our choir has I still want to move my voice to the next level but unfortunately I don't think I gonna go further than what I have now. Maybe a refinement of my voice as a bass singer. I have talent in playing the guitar too and I'm telling you I have lots of it. I even front acts in our school wherever there is an event in our school. I play freestyle way or play the electric guitar and play Cannon Rock. It's awesome the feeling that I get from it when playing the guitar. And the applause that you get from your audience. I gives me goose bumps. Good luck on your learning how to bake a cake. have a nice day!

Well i have achieved almost everything in life i have aspired for.I am a professional working in an automobile company,a good housewife as my family put it,a devoted mother as my child observes,a good cook as my cooking is adored by my hubby,a good singer as i have participated in many competitions and have won prizes.I think the one quality i am lacking in is dancing.Basically i am a very shy and introvert person,i love to dance but as soon as an occasion demands ,i always take a back seat and manage to hide myself.I really wish i could shed my inhibitions and dance one day.

I wish I could have a whole bunch of talents. The one I prefer most is to make my voice sound so different that you couldn't tell that it is my voice.

I've always wanted to be able to paint or draw. Many of my family members, including my mother, are so talented when it comes to art. I've never had the ability to paint a beautiful picture like they can. Now on the other hand, I've always had a gift in music (not singing though) that others in my family never had. I played several musical instruments in school and taught myself how to play the piano.

I guess you can say that there are talents that I want to learn like crocheting more, maybe even knitting, embroidery, and sewing. Oh and quilting. Oh and cross stitch. I want to learn these things so I don't have to buy quilts and such at stores, or don't need dishrags when I can crochet them. I do need to learn how to cook though, and it wouldn't hurt to learn tips for better housekeeping! lol!

Drawing, painting etc. I've always wished that I could draw what I can imagine but I never progressed beyond the kindergarten stick people kind of drawing. I can't even trace something without messing it up. I can draw a straight line with a ruler but it usually isn't at the angle I was going for.

Have you tried to use any art/photo programs on the computer? You can produce some great pictures without being able to draw.

Actually I have. I'm much better with the photo programs, playing with filters etc than I am with the drawing programs. It allows me to be creative which is fun, but it's still not the same as getting what I see in my head outside of me.

Have you ever considered taking a class? Baking cakes really isn't complicated. I can't think of any particular talent (I have plenty) that I wish I had at the moment, but as for your baking problem, the key is getting the temperature right and watching the cake as it bakes so that it doesn't burn. If the temperature is too high it will be golden or brown on top but still wet on the inside and of course it can burn on the bottom or stick to the pan. The directions on boxes of cake mix or in recipe books don't necessarily take into account different elevations (where you live does make a difference) or variations with types of ovens. Cooking with gas is very different than cooking with electric appliances, etc. You just have to keep trying and experimenting. Make sure you are using the proper size of pan as well. You can tell a lot by smell and the toothpick inserted in the center doesn't always help until you know what you are looking for. Is it all baking that eludes you or just cakes? Are you successfull with cookies, brownies or muffins? You know the saying practice makes perfect. Use timers, follow recipes to the letter and realize some things need to be tweaked and just experiment until you get the desired results. Good luck!

I have had 40 years of learning, experimenting, reading and being shown. The only cake-type thing I have any success with is apple buns. I have learnt by now that you either have it or you don't - I definitely haven't!

I love to sing and I sing a lot around the home. I especially like Christian Rock and really can get into that. But I do not sing outside the home or if we have company, because I just can't get to come out of my mouth, what my mind is singing. When I sing, I have been told, I could make a river weep. I cannot carry a tune nor can I any note correctly. Yet, I love to sing and wish I had this talent.

Even though I am a fairly good artist, I would love to be like...Caravaggio/Titian status. I'd also love to be able to play the piano like a musical guru.
