Ok so I love to bake and last night I wanted a pie so bad so I get everything out to make the crust nothing like home made flakey pie crust. The recipe has been in my family for years and so has the rolling pen I have always used to roll it out. And to my disbelief I went to get my rolling pen and it was gone, I can not for the life of me think of where it is I have always kept an eye on it because like I said it has been in my family for years. but anyway it wasnt there after looking for it for a while I gave up. Now Iam thinking how in the world am I going to roll the crust out. Looking in the cabinets the only thing I could find was a can of green beans that I thought might work. Well it did and worked very well I might add. and about an hour later I was sitting and eating my home made sweet potato pie with some whip cream on the top...mmmmmmmmm

So did you find the roller pen? I had the same incident before, but we were moving and most of the kitchen things were packed, when I decided to bake cinammon rolls, anyways I used a glass bottle, it worked out fine.

No I still have not found my rolling pen I wish I could though it was my Grandmothers at one time and she has passed on I hope I find it I really do. But If I do not I am sure my grandmother would have forgiven me and if she was a live she would have just went and gave me one of hers!

Hi sxrxnrr, That sounds delicious, another thing which you can use if you don't have a rolling pin is a bottle, that is just perfect, take care. Tamara

I have used cans to roll out pizza crust and sugar cookies before. I really washed the can good first though. It is amazing what you can do when you have to problem solve.

I have had to do the same thing before LOL! It's funny how we always think we need specific tools to do things...until those tools come up missing and we have to improvise. I do hope you find your rolling pin!

Show off!!LOL Sweet potatoe pie sounds yum. I also have my mother's pie shell recipe but it usually turns out to be a patchwork crust. Still flaky though. I do hope you found your rolling pin. Some things are irreplaceable. leenie

Funny thing is when you do find the rolling pin it will be exaclty where you put it when you used it last! I have never used a can of green beans but I could certainly see why it worked well. I have used a glass when I was at a friends house making biscuits once. It worked pretty good!
