Am I the only one who thinks this site would be a whole lot easier to navigate if there was some kind of internal search engine? There seem to be thousands of interest groups, and I keep seeing the same ones repeated. I'm sure a lot of the time people get frustrated trying to link in to a group on their subject, so they start a new one. If I click on an interest eg pets (for house rabbits, which I keep) it has pages on pages of links - I always give up and, if I haven't found my interest on, say, page 25 I make a new one. Going back to the 'pets' section: I found totally weird inclusions such as unicorns, dragons and pumas! I don't know about you guys, but I for one wouldn't want a pet puma climbing up the curtains!
It wouldn't be so bad if the subjects were in alphabetical order, but they're not. So, how do these listings work? Is it that those with the highest rankings go to the top of the list in each category, so I should just join the groups that come up first, or should I keep trawling through all those extra pages in case I hit jackpot? Too many people here are moaning about not getting their 'payouts' but it isn't surprising. I'm not in a minority group by any means, but it seems the chances of ANY of my start-up threads getting read are practically zero - there are just so many things stacked against me. I might have started a thread on exactly what someone else was thinking about e.g. company logos but if, say, I led off on the small business page and they're looking on the 'extra money making' threads our paths will never cross. A simple internal search engine would solve all this - typing 'company logos' would at least put us both on a similar path, even if we do still end up in different places! Surely I'm not alone in thinking payouts would be a whole lot better if the site was 'tidied up' a bit?
I didn't join for the cash, by the way, but to meet people with the same interests as myself - and it's still frustrating!

Just look at the top of the page. There's a search bar (powered by Yahoo). Select 'discussions' and type one or two words to search for. I think it uses the tags, so it would help if someone had tagged their discussion appropriately.
I agree about the Interest groups ... they're a pretty fair mess! That's what happens when you give users free reign to create whatever group they want, I suppose.
Welcome to MyLot, anyway. It has it's shortcomings but you sort of learn to work around them, somehow.

I did try that search option, but got sent straight through to the world wide web outside! Guess that's what happens if your search comes up with zilch. But you're right about the tags - I'll start adding them to my replies as well as my discussions.
I think it needs more than just the ordinary search engine though. When I went to Helium I quickly discovered my intended 'new topic' was already out there, albeit in a different form. It's a shame there isn't the same here: if, say I entered 'dragons' as a new hobby because I couldn't find it in the hobby section, ideally I'd be sent straight to the dragon page in 'pets.' There also ought to be a way of moving links so they're in the right place. Moving a pet entry to wildlife, for example. I mean, come on: pet platypuses, domesticated Wildebeestes ...?!
