I worked for 2 years in a tanning factory. I can say it's a very good experience having fair and reasonable employers and different types of workmates. Since the company required us to try the different works in the different stages of the tanning process, I learned a lot - from sorting of hides to quality sorting of finished leathers. It also made me empathize with all the workers who have to do the manual and hard labor 8 hours a day (and more if they are needed for over time works) and 7 days a week. The manual works made me develop some muscles too! . The company eventually gave me a management job supervising more than 20 people and I can say it is very challenging. My goal is to spur the production more efficient and effective and but I can not do it without stepping into the comfort zones of my workmates. Worst, these laborers were the ones who taught everything I know in the factory. To my surprise, the workers, many of theme unschooled, did opposed initially but saw the need for a change in working styles for better production. I can say I was able to effect some changes and improved the working condition in the section I was handling because of these good people I came to work with.

Yes, working in a tanning factory is really hard. You have to bear the smell of animal hides and chemicals and you have to be strong to be able to perform your job well. Some tanning process took long so we really have to do lots of over time. In some areas, we have to do shifting but there are times where we can't split the time and work, so we render extra time service. Well, over-time pay rate is much higher but some of the workers can't if they are too exhausted.

I worked in a factory for about 2 months. I hated it. It was the worts job I have ever had. It's way to regimented for me. I was checking computer circuit boards for errors and hated sitting still for 8 hours a day with only 3 breaks. Also the factory worked on rotating shifts. That meant on week I was working days, the next afternoons then the next week nights. I was always tired because my sleep patterns wee all confused.
