Where is Your Paradise?

I always get to thinking about stuff like this when it comes that time every year to plan the vacations. Where is the one place in the world you would go if money, time, and travel, were not an option? This is a difficult question for me to answer. I love 7 mile Beach in Grand Cayman. Thus far it is the most beautiful place on this earth I have ever been. But I also love going 30 miles away from my home to Ohiopyle to play in the cascading waterfalls and hike through the forest. The same was true when I went hiking in the Appalachian Mountains. I just love nature I guess. So how about you. Where do you want to go and where is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

Hi Cynny! WHOA! I LOVE Ohiopyle!! So much fun...the little boardwalk, the hiking, and as you mentioned - the falls. Awesome! I also love the little roadside tomato vendors on the way! Best tomatoes I've ever tasted... But to answer your question - I love France. Most of Europe is really groovy and Switzerland comes in a close second. But I just love parading through Paris and then traveling to the French countryside. It's awe inspiring. Je me souviens...

Yeah same Ohiopyle then....lol. Not a boardwalk but yes, they have the best Hersheys chocolate ice cream there. *sigh*. I can't wait til this summer. And as for the french person...I'm sure my husband would have beat him thoroughly with a flipper but he was too busy being accosted by a large group of women...or was that a group of large women...can't remember, who were using him as a flotation device.

I think we mean different Ohiopyles. This one is in PA, and there isn't a boardwalk. Some wicked white water rafting though. I don't think I could ever go to France. There was a french couple on the bus with us to to horseback riding in the Dominican Republic and they were just awful. It was also a frenchman who punched me in the face while Snorkeling with the nurse sharks, and only silly french people would go horse back riding in leather loafers and ballet slippers. maybe if I just trolled around the countryside and never actually had to talk to anyone I could enjoy it there. lol

WOW...punched you in the face? Man I woulda kicked his French A$$ American style if I was were with you...what a tool. No, no - that's the Ohiopyle I'm talking about...no boardwalk? Maybe boardwalk was a bad term to describe it. It's more of a little strip where you can get ice cream and sodas. I lived in Pittsburgh for 5 wonderful years.

My journey begins in mid April several years ago. I found myself in the Rockie mountains with a somnambulant British Army officer who said that he knew the Canadian Rockies like he knew his own home. As he was having major renovation done to his house at the time perhaps I should have realised that just maybe he wouldn't be entirely sure quite where we were going. We drove out of Banff closely followed by a group of Japanese tourists, cameras armed and ready for action and drove through thigh deep snow until at last, nature intervened and we had to halt our progress. No, not to admire the view, but because two Brits with full bladders and of a certain age could only go so far without the need for a tree. Fortunately that part of the world is well covered by the objects of our desire and we were soon ensconced behind our own versions of the Virginian "lonesome Pine" adding our own, unique offering to the great gods of nature. As I popped out from behind my tree I met a Japanese lady bowing and smiling at me. I smiled back. She smiled again. I smiled again. By now this dance was starting to become wearisome so I headed towards the car and my walking boots. Sh shuffled rapidly to her car and conferred with her fellow travellers. My colleague joined me and suitably shod we started to climb the path that lead our from the car park. We stumbled along the path, sinking deep into soft snow every few yards. Behind and at about 25 yards came the Japanese group. I noticed that the ladies were wearing the kind of footwear that you might find attractive on your beach Cyn - flip flops! Eventually we arrived at a shallow slope at the bottom of which was a stunning viewing point across Lake Louise. A glacial blue surrounded by the brilliance of snow. As we paused to burn few camera shots we heard a cry and the next thing that I knew I had about 5' of Japanese woman in my arms her flip flops having failed to grip the icy slope. I wish that she'd told me that it was me she wanted back in the car park. Would have saved a long journey! LOL. Anyway, it was paradise. But bugger all good for snorkelling!

She probably had a camera in her hand when she landed on you. Japanese tourists *shaking head* But I shouldn't shake my head cause I am just as bad. I have a camera in my hand 90% of the time when I'm on vacation. The other 10 is divided between food and drink :) The canadian rockies never appealed to me. I may have to do some research and see if I can find something bucket list worthy.

My paradise is a tropical island with gently waving palm trees, an aquamarine ocean and a coral reef nearby. I love to go snorkeling to see the colorful coral and the friendly fish. I adored going to the Seychelles and had a lovely time there. I went to Mahe Island, Praslin Island and La Digue Island. My favorite country that I have been to is Samoa. I loved bathing in its waterfalls, seeing the exciting blow holes, watching the fruit bats in the rain forest and spending time on the palm fringed beaches. I would love to go to other tropical islands like Mauritius, Tobago, Grenada, St Andres, Providence Island and Tonga. Grand Cayman sounds like the sort of place I would adore. Mountains are relaxing but I prefer tropical islands as long as there is some adventure like snorkeling.

I can't sell the husband on the Ireland idea, but I might accompany you to the airport just to see you go into a panic attack at the thought of flying at 45,000 feet about the landscape.

This one is easy. Nassau, Bahamas. That'd be the place. (Especially since I can't choose anywhere fictional, but hey I've got the opening lines in the free-for-all weekend for that). Warm temperature, fresh air, beautiful oceans to swim/snorkel/waverace in, waterfalls, naturally sculpted cliffs and some nice things to do overall. I have to agree that mountains are pretty nice too, and its best with a view of a city, town or open meadow. Now about the whole 'where would you go if money, time travel were not an option part'... if only the transporter beam was available. Then the whole world would be yours at the touch of a button... provided you have sufficient transport credits.

The bahamas are on my list. This year it is going to be Jamaica though. Hawaii proved to be too much of a headache, but there is this 800 Ft waterwall in Ocho Rios I intend to climb. Your last comment makes me think of the movie Jumper. Now that is the way to travel!

If money, time and travel were not an option i would hit up New York City. It is the biggest dream of mina nd have always wanted to go there. I live in Florida and have never been there and always think about going and what is would be like. The most beautiful place i have even been was St Martin i believe. Im not sure if that was the place or not but i remember getting off the cruise at a port and this most beautiful beach was right there and not like any beach righty down the road from my house. They had shops in the background almost like a boardwalk and it was just an amazing site nothing i have ever seen before.

The difference a few thousand miles make....lol I've been to NYC and I hated it. It was just a stop on my way to Vermont but I was sickened by the amount of people, noise, pollution, and traffic. But one of my places I NEED to see is Florida! Theme parks for the kids, beaches and ocean for me. *sigh* One of these days.

Too much noise. Too many people. 90% of my visions of paradise include white sand beaches and very few people to ruin the landscape. Crystal clear blue waters, palm trees swaying in the breeze coming off of the ocean. *sigh* I can't wait to go on vacation this year.

well, i must say that i`ve saw a top of the beaches in the world. And i don`t wanna visit first 3, i wanna visit the 4th, because it was on an island, far from people, and there was a hotel that had instead of rooms, houses with your own pool, jacuzzi, yard, and you had your own beach and your own sea... you can do all that you want tehre with your girl... it`s so nice, because the houses are small, that for privacy, because maybe some of them should watch you from the next house, but even if they would love that, they can`t. It`s so amaising...i was so quiet.. i would love to go on honeymoon with my girl in such a place.. As about my paradise, i would love to build a vacation house on the top of a mountain, where there are some people, but not too many, like 2-3 houses, and it will be so nice, if thouse will be my friends from now. That will be my paradise.. Where you have some quiet moments, when you can make "wild" parties, without police at your door, and where you can have all that you need.

One of the most beautiful places I've ever been is the Ozark Mountains because no matter what your favorite season is, it is absolutely beautiful! As far as where I want to go, that is far away, is Bangkok, Thailand or anyplace in Asia I suppose, but I have always had my sites set on Bangkok! ;)

*sigh* Mauritius is very beautiful from the pictures I have seen but with my hatred of flying and sitting in airports I know it is one of those places I can only dream about. From my location in the US, it would take me a minimum of 30 hours to get there, so to me it is like Africa....beautiful to look at but too painful to visit.

I want to go to Rome so badly! Does anyone have any stories to tell in Rome? I also really want to see the Sistine chapel!
