Karl Rove was a no-show today at his scheduled depositionabout an ongoing probe into the U.S. attorney firings.
So now the ball is in Obama's court. Bush asserted "absolute immunity" for his top aides. Will Obama do that same thing, or will be make an executive order for Rove to show up? What do you think?

I have no idea what he'll do, or what Congress wil do now...but seriously, it's illegal to defy a subpeona...whether you've immunity to answering questions or not.
He should be held in contempt. I dislike how unwilling they've been to hold him in contempt the last few times he's ignored subpeonas.

I'm not sure if Obama can order Rove to show up but he should be able to and he should do it if he could. I know Congress can hold him in contempt for not showing up, or at least I'd heard they can. It isn't just about the firings that Congress wants Rove to testify, there are other matters such as the charges against the former Governor of Alabama and the general politicization of the Justice Department where non-political applicants were asked questions about their political views before they were hired.

Well as it looks right now Rove is no showing and congress is not doing anything about it. So basically it is showing that congress has no real power. Obama can order him by executive order to show up but then it would mean NONE of his aids will ever have immunity and can be called too. Which is a door Obama may not want to open.

I don't think it would mean Obama would never have the power, it may mean he wouldn't have that power after leaving office. A court has already ruled against several former Bush Administration officials on the same immunity, which they're appealing. Harriet Meyers is one of them and I forget who the others are. I think Congress can still find Rove in contempt.

Not until ther court makes a ruling. Which could take years. The only thing that is going to get Rove in there before then is if Obama does an executive order.
