Will you be indulging in the delights of a pancake feast? If you are, what will you eat them with? Smothered in fruit and cream, maybe maple syrup, or what about plain with lemon juice and sugar sprinkled on them? Why not let us know what you'll be serving them with?

In Russia, this is the beginning of "Maslenitsa" -- butter week. It is celebrated with blini (a Russian crepe or pancake). I will be making these and coating them with plenty of local maple syrup for my wife. For myself, they are rolled up and filled with sour cream, preserves, or sweets.

Great to see how people all over the world celebrate this feast, some call it Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday)

That's not a bad idea. My husband makes really really good pancakes, and he makes them in the shape of a perfect HEART too! :) He spoils me absolutely rotten. He also bought some real Canadian maple syrup at the farmers market last week, so we have something good to top them with. I think we also have some of Aunt Nancy's homemade jam too. YUMMY And vanilla ice cream. Pancakes topped with Vanilla ice cream is really really good.

I've missed Shrove Tuesday...it's a bit early isn't it? I usually have my pancakes in a stack layed with dobs of butter, crushed walnuts and maple syrup. I figure if I'm going to do pancakes I may as well go the whole hog...

We didn't have pancakes on Tuesday, but we all love them here and have them for our evening meal maybe once a month when we're short of inspiration. Lemon and sugar, the old favourite, is great to finnish off the meal, but if you're after something more substantial then my choices would be slices of apple or salty ham cooked into the pancake and topped with cheese and a scrap of spinach.

I'm not Catholic anymore so I don't remember when these things are. But, pancakes with just plain lemon juice and sugar on it? That sounds scrumptious. I'll definately have to try that sometime. I was thinking that would be great with waffles, but we're not talking about them. *Pleiades
