I think that it is interesting research. It tends to corroborate what many people already believe: that certain types of people who tend to 'stress' more, may be more prone to heart problems than others.
I would have thought it obvious that adrenaline affects the muscles of the heart directly (as well as other muscles). Adrenaline is what is produced in 'fight or flee' situations and is designed to give the body immediate energy and alertness to either fight or to run away. It is usually produced as a response to an actual situation of anger or fear but it can also be stimulated by a memory or mental re-enactment of such a situation. Some people are more capable of that than others and different people will produce different levels of adrenaline.

Hi raydene! I think that it is true. I also feel that my heart race or beat faster when I get angry. I do believe that any negative emotions really affect one's heart. The stress can damage our heart. That is why, I avoid being angry and being affected negatively as much as possible..well, that is if I can help it!

Hi,
The research clearly points out that for those 'Cardiac Compromised patients ',Negative Emotions (like Anger), will produce deleterious effect by increasing Arrythmia. For Normal subjects(without any Heart disease),effect of Anger is yet to be established.
Am I correct?

Sometimes my heart-beat gets stronger and faster when I'm under a lot of stress or feeling angry. I take it as the body's signal to CALM DOWN NOW, and I do whatever I need to do to calm down. Luckily in my case, it's sometimes only a matter of putting on my headphones, and listening to music for a few minutes.
