Update: I'll be back on Monday!

Okay, yesterday I said I wasn't sure how long I'd be gone because I was having trouble getting internet at my new address, which I'm moving to this weekend. Well, I spent all night last night searching for an internet provider who would provide cable, DSL, or even satelite internet to my new address. Unfortunatly since it's in the boonies and on the outskirts of the nearest town, no internet provider goes out there! So I had to wrap my head around the fact that I'm going to have to go back to a dial up connection. So this morning I've downloaded the software, and I'm all set to connect via my phone line. The only thing I'll have to wait for is my phone to be hooked up in the new place, which should be happening Monday. So you guys might not have to live without me for as long as you thought. Of course having a dial up connection does mean I won't be online as much as I have been. I can't afford a second phone line, and can't keep my phone line tied up all the time, especially not when my kids are in school. So, this will mean I'll probably get more accomplished around the house! (I almost wish I only had the dial up now because I'm spending far too much time online when I should be preparing for the move!). I'm not exactly thrilled about having to use the dial up, I've been using DSL or cable for 7 years, and I'm worried about how slow the dial up will be! I'm sure I'll get used to it after awhile though, and it will save us a little money, which is important since we'll now have a few more bills than we're used to (paying for TV service and insurance). Have you ever had to downgrade your internet service or deal without internet for awhile?

A few years ago I cut out my DSL completely in order to have more money to go towards other things. My sister who lived a few blocks away had cable internet, so if i needed to get online I could just run over there. When I was living in the boonies I had satellite internet, but it was still slow as heck. Probably dial up like. It was annoying. The internet is much faster here now that I have cable internet.

All the satelite internets I looked at is ungodly expensive, even more than road runner! The cheapest I could find was $60 a month, and I sure as heck ain't paying that much for internet!

Out in the boonies I had the choice of dial up, Wild Blue, and Hughes Net. Wild Blue and Hughes Net both charge installation and the cheapest was $60 a month.

I have heard nothing but bad reviews for HughesNet out here in Minnesota. I have QWest DSL and it's fast and I love it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hey! I see you are moving! I haven't been here very much lately, but you are definitely quick! Did you purchase? I think you mentioned it in a discussion before. With such a large family, you probably have lots of packing to do!!No, I haven't had to downgrade. That would probably stink, though.

Ha Ha, yeah, we bought a trailer... er... mobile home! We just bought it like a week ago, then it dawned on my on Sunday that I have less than a week to pack! Mostly I'm just getting rid of stuff we're not taking with us. The biggest problem is the downgrade in size. We have a large place now, and moving into a small space, so everything must go!!

I threw it all out on the porch and put a free sign on it. It's not going very fast, but some of it is going. I'm also posting much of it on Freecycle. If it's not gone in a couple days I'll be taking it all down to the Salvation Army. The only thing we might be selling will be a computer, and we'll post that on Craigslist most likely.

YIKES! Dial-up sux big time. I had dial-up for so many years. I switched to DSL about a year ago. I would hate to be back on dial-up. I have never had a blackout of my Internet in all the years I've been online. One day if that was the longest. Maybe 6 or so hours was all due to a winmter ice storm awhile back. Other than that no problems with downgrading or loss. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well good deal. You're in for a major change in life that's a given. Good luck with the move also. I am not getting all my notices either. I never got an email about this discussion. Hmmm? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Weird! Most of my other friends are getting their notices!

I've had very few issues with my Verizon DSL, not as many issues as I had with Road Runner. I'm not overly fond of downgrading, but have no options.

Moving can be rough! We are looking for a way to save some more money. So I am sure a downgrade will be in our future. I will miss my faster speeds when that happens.

Hey kats! I'm sure that you will get used to it~! It's still better than not having any internet connection at all! I started out with dialup and it really didn't bother me that much! I used it for quite awhile and since I didn't know the difference it didn't bother me! If I had to go back to it, I would! And I just might have to! I might have to get rid of it myself to save money on bills if I get my disability. And then I will have to use my cell phone, which I don't use that much! It's prepaid and I have to put money on it just to keep it from being turned off completely and the money just sits on it and that is a waste!

I also started up on dial up, and it wasn't awful, but like you said, I didn't notice a difference, I had nothing to compair it to. This time it will take some adjusting, but I think I'll be okay.

Oh wow! I have not had dial up for.... gee... it's been some years! I hope you transition smoothly! It will stink you not being able to be on as much, but I'm sure we can look forward to new discussions since you have more free time to come up with things, or more events taking place :) Good luck with the move and READ you soon :)

I've been downloading my emails into Outlook, replying to the ones I'm interested in, then copy and pasting my responses onto the myLot site when I can get back online for awhile now. I hate having to do it this way, but at least it means I can still participate. Going from an all bells and whistles internet service to a limited one is like having one of your forms of communication taken away!

I wish you luck and I hope everything goes smoothly for you. I really hate moving and I can't imagine doing in with little ones. Hopefully it will be a nice, smooth transition!

Thanks. I hope it will be a smooth transition too. So far the kids are all very excited, and I honestly don't know why. Just something new for them, they like the idea of it.
