Asleep On The Couch

Awakened Rudely - Buster was not real happy to be woke up at this time.

I started a discussion asking advice on how to keep Buster off the furniture. I tried the foil routine with him removing the foil and sleeping on the couch anyhow. I got home after placing a lot of foil on the couch and found the foil all wrinkled up on the floor and him sleeping soundly on the couch. This is a shot I took right after waking him up that night. Now I am reserved to go ahead and allow him his place on the furniture. I tried a few things with no results so he has his space now. Now I need to find my space as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Buster is fully alert to what is going on. He has claimed his space and is comfortable sleeping right where he is. You might have to call the Dog Whisperer to help with Buster.

Yeah I have resigned myself to allowing him his space and naptime on the furniture. He is so cute though it's hard to chase him off the couch etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

i have heard when the dogs get on the furniture make a loud noise like get a whistle or something....since they don't like loud noises they'll think that everytime they jump on the furniture a loud noise will follow n they will learn to stop...but when ur not home i don't know what u can do lol

I guess two sayings come to mind off hand and they are: 1. Can't teach an old dog new tricks. Now I am not saying he is old or staying off of furniture is a trick but that come to mind. 2. If you can't beat em join em. Guess it is time for Buster to move over and make room for you too.

He was an old dog when I got him and taught him many new tricks. Just the furniture sitting is one that works only when I am around. As soon as I leave he jumps up and relaxes. HAhahahaah! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

And the master is? LOL...sounds like he just loves his couch! My dog did that too but when he heard me coming down the steps I could hear him quickly jump off...like he was being good and not on the couch...

Sable pretty much owns the couch and our bed when we're not home. It's almost impossible to keep her off of them when we're out - unless we put her back in a crate (not going to happen). It doesn't really bother me, too much because the couch is kinda getting old and she can't really hurt the bed too much. But, when we're home I'm CONSTANTLY getting her off the couch when she thinks it's safe to be up there (like as soon as we've gone to bed).

Now how can anyone say no to this adorable Buster? hes so cute and loveable and has those sweet eyes.lol I would let him sleep where he pleases. I think he is smart and knows what he wants. Who can blame him for that. It causes no real harm and he is a loyal faithful companion! What a cutie!

I guess you need to cover the couch so it does not get full of dog hair and dirt from buster. My dogs are little so they are allowed on the furniture and they even sleep on my lap every time they can.

I guess keep a sheet over the furniture that Buster can lay on or put him in his own room when you go out. I think he knows what he's doing and he knows you love him too much to really get the upper hand. If I were you try to sit where he likes to lay so he doesn't lay there anymore. If he smells you he will think it is yours. That's the whole "pack" thing. Maybe he'll stop. I think he will just find another spot. Honestly if he isn't going potty on the furniture I'ld let him do what he's doing. What is he hurting if you put a sheet down.

i also have a pet who loves to get inside the house and lay on our couch. the only thing we can do is carry her off and out into the backyard. i also took pictures of her while lazily lounging on the couch and asking to be pet haha

Give up the fight. How can you say no to sweet Buster. Now, go find yourself a nice spot in front of the computer and leave Buster to his nap.

I miss seeing Buster, I can't wait to see this picture. So you tried putting foil on the couch to keep him off? Sounds like he is smarter than you thought, which is why for our dog, we use a kennel, unless of course you have a Marley..lol (Marley being the dog in the movie "Marley and Me", if you read the book you will see that Marley couldn't be kepted in a kennel..)

When i dont want my animals on the furniture i tend to either put something infront (like my coffee table) or on top of it like laundry basket or pillows. However my dog is pretty little and has a hard time getting on the couch already.

Hey Grandpa Bob! I think that as part of your family that you should just let him sleep on the furniture already! He is such a good dog! He probably is just cold and wants to sleep all curled up where he can have everyone's scent that he loves! He's not trying to be a bad boy, he just wants to sleep in peace! I think you should just let him! He loves you so much!

My mother had the same problem with my brothers dog when he moved back home, and she tried to keep him off the furniture and my brother always let the dog on his furniture...so eventually she gave up and put a blanket on the couch and somehow the dog new it was for him...and that is where he slept all the time...LOL
