I encounter it all the time. Did treating people kindly and manners go out with the women's movement. Many young men just have never been taught. I have heard some women actually be disgusted when a man tries to open a door for them or do a kindness. Any young man that has a mother like you who teaches kindness, manners, and respect is most blessed. It is too bad that the man who ignored the older woman did not know or maybe care about this. Is it because he did not have a loving mother guiding him into his adult life? What an important role we fill when we take motherhood seriously.

And the same time ,the school and society all have the responsibility to help the youth to establish morality standard!

Sorry to make no response to your discussions recently, cuz I am a little busy. And right now ,i have just arrived at home. About the thing you mentioned is a common phenomena,it seems difficult to find the gentleman, and lots of yong men have forgotten to be a gentleman!!They said ,it was my seat ,i had the right to sit here ,it is not against the law,why should i give up the seat of mine,i was tired too.!! Can it been called selfish, or sth thing else ,it it about the morality but not the law, lots of people do things in that way:I am just following the law!!!They don't care about the morality!!

Hi marketing, wow..I admire your son. It means he was raised with a good discipline and values. I have seen situation like that back home and I tell you, there are a lot of people who are good in ignoring and pretending that they didn't see anything like that! It will always pissed me off! I guess this value if degrading, people became more selfish but I am thankful, there are still parents who instill in their kids these good values, like you!

i have a major issue with manners today! I am approaching 50 and i get up to let someone younger than me sit on my seat if they look impaired. the youth of today need a good kick up the jacksy!!

i think its shocking how little manners some people have these days. I was accompanying my pregnant friend on a bus a few days ago and not one person would get up and give her a seat. Its really appauling that people dont seem to care anymore. Whats the world coming too!!

At least you have one! I do to! My son will do things like that. I raised him to do so and he continues. But seldom do I see other men doing it. I took my GD (3rd grade) to school the other day and as I was walking out through the office doors, a young man - 3rd or 4th grade age...held the door for me! I told him thank you so much ... that is very kind.

I've encountered those incidents many times in public transportation. I think it's in the upbringing of the parents to their male children. My dad taught my siblings to always give way to the elders and ladies. It's not that they're nowhere to be found, it's just that they are rare species. LOL!
