It is a surprise how religions consist of so many miracles. Maybe that is why people feel attracted towards religions. If a religion is based on facts and truths of life, who would get attracted to it?

it is not that religions are based o miracles. Rather, miracles are based on religion. Call it a belief or a hallucination, religion is no where dependent on miracles. To me, it is like miracles may pave a stronger pathway for people to believe. Sometimes, people who are hard at believing may find it easy to belive with an example -- here comes into scene , a miracle!

I am not sure how to answer this one but I will try to do so based on what I know about Christianity.I think Religion can exist and should be able to exist without miracles.Thae fact of the matter is that Christianity was established in part by the displays of miracles however that was just the initial phases and now Christianity is able to exist without miracles.I think initially this was necessary to bring the first christians to the truth but after that I believe that you have to "walk by faith" and not so much displays like miracles.Miracles tjough help to enhance one's faith but it is not a prequisite for Religion. Good discussion, keep up the good work

I would, and have. It's because of science that I became a believer. And while only 38-40% of scientists in polls state a belief in a personal God, the fact is that only 16% are atheists. It's events that are as yet unexplained by science that have broadened and deepened my faith, but it's the facts and truths of life from whence it begins. Even Richard Dawkins is not a bona fide atheist; he is apparently a pantheist. Thousands of years ago, theism (not to be confused with theology) began with mysterium tremendum et fascinans. And today, it's the intricacy of biology that causes scientists to think, "this was the product of a mind, an ingenious mind." You said you remember how it all began (for which I called you a liar). Why don't you make your contribution to science?

Miracles still happen.Supposing we go to an osteopath and he makes us walk by releaving the pain that is what they thought was a miracle because they did have no understanding of the science behind it.Some of the miracles were spin and some coincidences ,things that were due to happen anyway. You beleave what you want to beleave like every good story it has it highs and lows ,a good novel must keep you interested, religion is there to give people something to aspire to .Acode to live by and what is wrong with that.A common cause where people can gather and be happy.like minded people who have the same values and comfort each other in hard times.

Religion is essentially aimed at very ordinary people. It is meant to herd in people who cannot 'govern' themselves or rein in their emotions or desire to do harm to others because they have the power. How do you appeal to these people? They can't be impressed until you can show something extraordinary that will happen when people get closer to God. Like Jesus healed the sick, or lepers, or gave eyesight to the blind etc., Lord Krishna bestowed beauty on a crooked, stunted and ugly looking KubjA and turned her into a beautiful damsel. He slayed several demons that were sent by Kamsa to do harm to Him or His people in the cowherds' colony. These miracles serve as inducements to the ordinary. Once someone gets into a closer relationship with God or Goodness in general, such inducements would not be necessary. If the intellectual level of a person is very high that he himself gets closer to God of his own volition for he has understood the greater purpose of life, he/she would not need any miracles to prove either God's Power or His necessity for humankind. In Hindu purANas for instance, [mythological legends]often an avatar[A Descent of God onto Earth]is engaged in a war to vanquish one or the other "demon". Such heroic deeds by God in his Descents to the Earth are expected to serve as assurances to the people plagued by fear(s) that He is there as the Ultimate Protection against Evil. Now, take look at today.Where are the demons? Could you go public and call someone a demon, and pray for God to descend to slay this demon? How politically inappropriate that would be? Then why is that even serious highly educated people also attend these lectures, and go into rapture. It is because they understand that these stories are symbolic, are meant only to put a point across through the medium of a story, for stories are easily remembered by people, along with it the moral or the lesson for the people, gets registered in their minds. For the intellectual there is always the path of contemplation and inquiry into the Nature of God and the Individual(s) and their inter-relationships. Thus in a religion like Hinduism for instance there are such simplistic stories and the philosophies with highest abstraction like the Advaita Vedanta , or the Veda-mimicking picturesque descriptions as in Dwaita[Dualistic School] and the vishiShTadvaita[Qualified Monotheistic school] Vedanta.

Mirracles from GOD gives peace of mind as bonus.Evil spirits also perform mirracles but you will screw-up your peace of mind with that.Any thing from JESUS CHRIST is from GOD.

Yes, miracles are indeed an integral part of all religion. We mere mortals are forever looking for signs from God to renew our belief in Him…after all , we are considered His children and like all children we too are prone to mistakes and look towards the Father to guide us to the right path. Now that guidance comes thru other mortal like us (preachers or messengers) so its very difficult for the multitude to have faith in that person until and unless he is able to perform some sort of miracle and thus prove his claim to be a messenger of God.

^_^ Howdy!.... Frederick42!.... Miracles are the real facts and truths of life because of having faith. Even doesn't know the there are existing real facts and truths the most important is to have faith and that is why the mystery of miracles comes around. And to have miracles is must to have faith first so it will be not a life time forever of questions of mysteries of whatever the facts and what are the truths of life. And always be thankful for all of these blessings and graces of miracles in life. A blind man can still live life because of faith and that is miracle.^_^ God Bless Us!.... Peace!.... Thanks!.... and Enjoy!.... myLot!....
