How long the free mail providers keep our email account , if we are not log in to our account for a long period? Will it be deleted or it will be as such always? If they are keeping our account readily available for our use, what is the benefit to them,by having such active/inactive users?

Though I have not left them inactive for more than three months, I wanted to know the fact. With this doubt, I used to check my accounts periodically, at least once in 3 months. But I don;t have accounts in hot mail and should create one, there. Thanks for your response.

I really am not sure if it still works the same way but I remember trying to access my old e-mail account. It was my very first e-mail account and it has been years since I opened it. It said my account is no longer available. What I know is as long as you get mail in your account, it will go on being active even if you do not open or use it for a long period of time. My second e-mail account is still active even if I open it after a few months. And mail has piled up....most of them spam! Guess that is why I chose G-mail. Less spam there.
