A Question about Constipaton...

My question is could constipation make you fat? If you don't move your bowels regularly, could this make you gain weight or store more fat? I do consume enough fiber, water, fruits, and vegetables but I am still constipated. I have read somewhere that constipation is caused by opioid peptides and beta-carbolines in prepared food. How true is this? Have you ever been chronically constipated and what did you do to help your situation aside from laxatives?

I don't know if it would make you fat directly, but it could indirectly by making you lethargic so that it's hard to get enough exercise. Also, when one is constipated, toxins recirculate in the body, so it's very hard on a person. I don't have this problem often, but when I do, I use a tea called "Smooth Move" by Traditional Medicinals. It's a completely natural product that works gently and has never failed me. Using commercial laxatives can make constipation worse by making your body rely on them.

Yes, I know of Traditional Medicinals. I have even bought their Chamomile tea and Peppermint tea. what's also great about them is that they support organic farming, and recycling.

I don't think that there is any scientific explanation about constipation can make you fat. As far as I know constipation can make you dehydrated if you don't cure it immediately. I have experienced constipation before and that is true that you can get this with the food that we eat. I have a constipation before which lasted for 3 days but I didn't suffer from dehydration because I drink a lot of fluids everyday and I knew that it is bad since it lasted for 3 days but luckily after 3 days my body started to recover again because of the fiber diet that I have. I ate plenty of fruits like mango and banana at that time. I think that helps a lot!

If, like you say, you eat enough fiber, fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water and still you're constipated, I suggest you see a doctor about your condition. Your constipation is probably a symptom of an illness.

I do not think that constipation will make you fat. It could make you gain a little weight cos all that waste is being carried around in you. But to make you store more fats? I do not think so. It could be possible. I do not know for sure. Must surf around to check. What I usually do when I have constipation, I eat lots of papayas and prunes. And drink lots of water. And I really mean lots of water. IF that still do not work, then try drinking a lot of vitagen and eat lots of ricola lozenges. Cos consuming them in excess will make them become a mild sort of laxative.

Eat an abundant serving of dried fruit, especially prunes and/or dates If you can't go after that, see a doctor!
