I live way out in the country in Canada, currently on dialup internet. I need a faster better internet server. A friend has offered to connect me up with ACN. This is a relatively new phone company that offers a phone plan that's supposedly better and cheaper than Bell Canada, and Rogers. The deal is Satellite internet via computer card, for a one-time $150.00 and a 2 year contract at $30.00/month for 1 gigabyte. How fast is ACN internet, and should I sign up? Is anyone using this service, and how satisfactory is it?

I've never heard of them. Do you have a link to their website so I can check them out? I'm in rural Canada also. I also have only dialup. But at least my dialup is only costing me $8/mo, well, actually only $3, because $5 of that is for my long distance plan that makes all my anytime minutes cost only 4cents. Not that I use alot of long distance. I've researched quite a few Satellite companies, but it will cost $50/mo and I really don't want to spend that much. Plus anywhere from $400 - $700 for initial setup costs. 1 wireless company even wanted $900 for set up. I was hoping to find high speed in some form or fashion for only $30/mo without huge set up costs.

Hi mate...just find out what happens when you go over your 1Gig allocation. That isn't much especially if they count combined download plus upload. They might charge you extra and so you will be presented with a big fat extra on you monthly bill. It's better if they simply slow you down. I recently went from dial-up to satellite broadband and I didn't notice a huge increase in speed. When I reach my allocation they slowed me down and I don't notice that much either. Find out your rights and responsibilities and also the same of your service provider. Read any and all fine print. Good luck.
