Is it OK to snitch on the police to the police?

A friend of mine called me recently and wanted my opinion about something he did. some one set him up on a blind date with a woman who worked in law enforcement. When they were out she asked him a couple of questions about things in his past that she seemingly had no way of knowing. Later that night he spoke to her on a web chat. She admitted online that she had pulled up his criminal record before their date. He then forwarded a copy of the text to the agency she worked for. If you were in his shoes would you have done something like that or just let it go. His mother said he was wrong for possibly getting the woman fired from her job. I said that she should know better. She works in law enforcement if she can dish it out she should be able to take it. What do you think?

wow, thats crazy.. but! there are websites dedicated to knowing about certain men in certain areas and women sharing info on them and telling them not to date certain guys. http.www.dontdatehimgirl.com of course this takes the cake of that whole website but is it any different? she looked in his past through her work and thats actually an abuse of power if she is in law enforcement. some people take it way too far. what if he reversed it and found out about that toy she may have bought a few weeks ago? lol its not always funny when its done to people when the shoes on the other foot. what is wrong with the world and the people living in it. we have to know everything yet we still know nothing. this is a toss up, i don't know what i would do on the other side of things.

This is a tricky one. I used to work for a police department as a dispatcher. Part of the information kept on file is a matter of public record such as arrests. That's why your newspapers can print them and your newscasts mention them on TV. She has every right as a private citizen to access the public record. The problem comes in that in the files, computer and paper, the public and private information is co-mingled so if she accessed it herself for anything other than her official duties then she violated both policy and law. On the other hand if she as a private citizen made an inquiry and someone else looked it up so that she was only given the public record she wouldn't be in trouble. The position of a Police Officer is one of authority and necessitates a higher degree of trust than most jobs. If she illegally accessed that information about him, you can bet she's doing it with others, not just dates, but anyone she feels she needs or it would be useful for her to know about....her neighbors, landlord, her sisters kids teacher etc. Your friend was right to report her. If she did nothing wrong, she'll be fine. If she violated the trust placed in her by the department than she deserves what she's going to get. I've worked with great cops, and a few bad ones. It's far better to catch the bad ones early rather than late because they've grown bold getting away with things they shouldn't be doing. Tell your friend he did the right thing.

I totaly agree with you but in the same breath I would not have went to the same enforcement agency, I would have went to an attourney for help. You just never know how deep the rabbit hole goes, and reporting one corrupt cop to another is like farting in the wind.
