As I continue to make gifts for family and friends I finished another Elmo bank yesterday. The background is a darker purple. I could use any other suggestions offered about making Sesame Street items so feel free to post your ideas here. I haven't contacted the Muppets to see if I can get approval to sell these banks to the public. Although it's not their exact pattern, I've altered it somewhat, still need to contact them if I want to sell the banks at a craft fair. Don't want to deal with a copyright issue. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I really don't think you'd find yourself being hassled at craft shows selling these items. I see quite a few people selling crocheted items of sports teams at craft shows and they do quite well, especially around the holidays (it's so hard to make a crafty gift for a male)
These people surely don't have permission from the NFL, the union and the team itself to make and sell these items, but they do and with nothing is ever said by the show organizers.
Your banks are so very cute and I'm sure you would sell quite a few. I think if you had an online presence, where you were trying to sell these items, you could run into some trouble eventually, but at one day craft show, it's highly unlikely.
Try sending them an email, you never know...they may tell for a craft show, it's okay to sell them. They are very, very adorable and it would be shame to not be able to share them with everyone!

Thanks, Robin for your nice compliment. I do believe selling them online would be a disaster without approval from the Muppets. I think they own the rights to any Sesame Street characters. I don't see anything wrong with selling these banks at a craft fair or two but haven't done it simply because I didn't want to get into trouble. Just takes one person to cause a hassle. You bring up some very good points in your response. Thanks for responding.

Hi, Loved your post! I do alot of crochet. Yes,copyrights are a big confussing mess. What I would suggest is: See if Leisure Arts, Annies Attic, or other well known pattern companies have a pattern book with what ever charactors you want to work with. If they do, contact them, ask them if you use their project patterns, make the product, if you can legally sell the projects. Or you could "design" similiar but different charactors. Slightly different eyes, smile, color, and so on. Heck, kids like all kinds of goofy looking charactors. Espicially bright colors. Who would of thought that giving a sponge a face, limbs, and pants would be such a big deal. LOL

I have altered the original patterns. Just slightly but they are altered. The Sesame Street characters I have made for family and friends only. I know it's ok to do this but not to sell them without their permission. Don't want to be sitting in jail because I made crafts..lol Or be tagged with a hefty fine. Thank you so much for responding.

I agree. The Muppets own the rights to the characters and they deserve all the credit. I'd love to be able to sell them. Each bank takes alot of work but would be nice to sell them. I did get the the patterns from a free site online and don't recall seeing anything about reselling without permission but don't want to risk it. Can you see this grandma in jail for making and selling crafts? lol Thanks for responding.

Truthfully I don't think they would...but don't take my word for it....they are so darn cute I would check it out though...might be you can....like I do stamping. The only company that doesn't want you to sell anything you make with their product is Stamping up...so I steer clear of them...and I use those from other companies as I sell alot of cards.

Curtains whether that be bathroom shower or just window curtains. Dolls, amigurumi or otherwise. Rugs, cross stitch...

hello carolbee
i just went to look to see if you posted a photograph of Elmo to your Mylot discussion and i didn't see one. lol and i haven't any idea as of what else that you could make Sesame Street wise. lol i am not very good at making crafts like that you are. how about some light switch covers? lol and i hear ya about not wanting to have to mess with a copyright issue either. are you going to show us all around here at Mylot what that the purple Elmo bank looks like? thanks for sharing. how about making some kind of a small wall hanging with one of the character's from Sesame Street on that? well i have given you a couple of ideas this morning and i wish you luck in making whatever craft that you want to make.
take care and have a beautiful day today!

I will try to post the photo again. I tried twice this morning and guess it failed. myLot is giving me trouble again this morning. I have made light switch covers and they turned out really nice but didn't make with Sesame Street characters. Would have a hole in the middle of, for example, Elmo's face..lol I also have a set of wall hangings of the sesame street characters. Just completed another set for our grandbaby. Thanks for responding with some good suggestions. Anything else you can think of would be appreciated.
