Daylight Savings Time

United States

While it looks as if this is just another page f politics, I believe my post is a bit less controversial. We started Daylight Savings Time to allow farmers more sunlit time in their fields, etc. We haven't been an agrarian society for years, but the time changes remain in place. WHY??? It's beyond inconvenient, and just plain annoying in many cases. A couplae of areas of America have opted out, but why are the rest of us still annoying ourselves with changing the clocks and our sleep patterns a couple of times each year?

Hi cobrateacher! That is such a great question! I thought that they were thinking about doing away with it altogether! It is rather an annoying inconvenience isn't it? I still don't see the purpose of it, do you? It takes a few days to adjust to it and then what? I do like that fact that in the summer it stays lighter later, but then in the winter when we really need it to stay lighter later it gets darker earlier. That makes no sense whatsoever! Why don't they just leave the time alone?

Why can't they just pick one set of times and leave us with it? Incidentally, I've been hearing from Itsmefaith a lot on Facebook - she's banned here - and she asked me to tell you she misses you. Are we ever going to have those get-togethers? It would be great fun! Groggy just thinking about changing the clocks! Joanne

Hey you two, What's this about a get together? Opal are you going to Miami? I am so jealous. I wish I could afford to go down and meet you both. Whatever you do, please take some pictures. I want to at least see two of my favorite people. Have a great time. Let me know when you plan to meet. Just so I can be thinking of you both.xoxoxo leenie

I tried to write her an email. I thought I had her address. Ask her if she got it. It was when she first disappeared. I am getting ready to start planning my trip very soon so I will tell you when. Pm your email address. I can't send on my mylot pms, I can only receive. This way I can talk you better.

I agree with you. This is terribly annoying and disrupting our regular, daily patterns or schedules. I know Arizona doesn't change their time. It seems rather easy to leave it alone. With all the modern appliances we have to run around our house and change everything for 6 months and then do it again. Same applies to car clocks. Just a nuisance.

I agree. It's annoying and it's something I've had to do all my life but there is still time for change. Would be nice to just leave it alone and not bother with the time change twice a year.

There's no reason to keep it, as far as I can tell. It's not the biggest deal on earth, but it's certainly annoying.

i agree with you as it is hugely inconvenient and i hate loosing that hour of sleep! i know the province of saskatchewan (canada) does not do daylight savings, but most of the rest of north america does. we should discontinue it, especially because there are not as near many farmers as there used to be.

For more than 40 years, I've expected to get used to getting up at 3:30 in the morning and get to work before sunrise. If we didn't have DST, it would be light by 5:30 or 6 in the morning, and I could find out whether the sun came out before going outside at lunch (no windows in the building)! Children always have a hard time adjusting to the changes, whether it moves forward or back.

I like daylight savings time and would rather it stayed that way all year instead of standard time. Cobra I think this is the first time I've disagreed with you. Shall we drink to that.

OK, let's stick with DST. All the changing makes me more than tired. Just one time zone would be great!

I hate it. I wish we didn't have to do it. It not only messes up my sleep schedule but how is are babies and toddlers suppose to know whats going on. My son is two. Last time the change happened it was easy on him but now he has been already having alot of sleeping problems. I just know it may be harder this time.

Why not dump it? T farms are mostly heavy on the technology, and they do have artificial lighting!

I love daylight savings time. I like having more sunlight hours in the day. I hate it when October rolls around and it's time to change back and it gets dark early. I'm all for springing up and keeping things that way. As far as losing sleep goes, I wasn't affected by the change Saturday night/Sunday morning at all. Didn't even think about it until hours after I got up.
