Hi ElicBxn! I love the giraffe! They're amazing and fasinating creatures!! When ever we're able to visit the zoo, the giraffe is one of the first animals I want to see because they're so amazing! Then I saw a documentary on them and I found them to be even more amazing!! The picture of this little one is so cute!! I hope it makes it even though it has to have cow's milk. Here's a clip I found on the internet which is what I saw on the documentary. I think you'll find it interesting too.
A giraffe's heart, which can weigh up to 10 kg (22 lb) and measure about 60 cm (2 ft) long, must generate approximately double the normal blood pressure for an average large mammal to maintain blood flow to the brain. In the upper neck, a complex pressure-regulation system called the rete mirabile prevents excess blood flow to the brain when the giraffe lowers its head to drink. Conversely, the blood vessels in the lower legs are under great pressure (because of the weight of fluid pressing down on them). In other animals such pressure would force the blood out through the capillary walls; giraffes, however, have a very tight sheath of thick skin over their lower limbs which maintains high extravascular pressure in the same way as a pilot's g-suit

I have been giraffe crazy since I was a tot, my brother remembers my dad bringing back stuffed toy that started it all, I was less than 2, so I don't remember getting it, just having it

I hope the giraffe makes it. Do they know why the mother isn't producing milk? Could it be due to the stress of being kept in a zoo? I really have a problem with zoos keeping large animals that need hundred of acres of land to roam in and they are just given a small pen that is not sufficient to their natural needs.

Hey, that's really neat. If humans can live on cow's milk, and goat's milk, why can't a giraffe drink it? Thanks for posting this.

That is so cute! How wonderful that the vets and keepers are able to care for this splotchy (spotty and patchy! lol) little darling. I'd offer, but being 5ft 2in, a baby giraffe just woulndn't be able to feed properly
. Got plenty to spare though, and I'm sure the local milking sheds would be more than happy to help collect it
