It's strange living on post (on base) with my daughter and son-in-law. One of the things you have to get used to is hearing a cannon. lol But one of the things that is different, is sitting here at night, and the household is quite and you hear Taps being played. It's kind of calming actually, to hear the bugle playing Taps at the end of the day. Does anyone else live on post and hear Taps?

I used to live on base for a while and I used to love waking up every morning to Reveille and the call of cadences in the early morning and then Taps every night as we went to sleep. Sunrises were always gorgeous on base too, and it was always fun to watch the helicopters go by overhead or the hummers and heavy machinery roll down the street. It's something to get used to, but admittedly I miss it now.

You are right, it does take a little getting used to, and there is also the cannon lol. We just watched two shinooks fly over this morning. What base did you live on?

For a while I lived on Fort Leonard Wood out in Missouri. From where our barracks were, I don't think I ever heard the cannon--or maybe I just wasn't paying very close attention to it.

Hey palonghorn! That must be strange, but yet peaceful and somewhat relaxing to hear the bugle playing Taps at the end of the day. I think that I would rather like that! It sounds like it would be rather nice and comforting to hear at the end of the day. It would something would sort of make me feel like I was in safe protected place for some reason. I don't know. The sound of Taps would make me feel as you said, very calm. I envy you. It sounds like you are in a good place right now! I'm happy for you.

Thank you, I am in a good place, but I still have my moments. There are times that I really miss my big dog, and yes, even him. lol. But, I'm taking each day as it comes and for the most part I'm doing good. I've been catching up on my scrapbooking. and I'll be going to another scrapbook retreat at the end of March, a treat from my daughter. Guess she thought I might need a weekend away, to just scrapbook, relax and enjoy the beach. It is taking a little getting used to living on post. lol

I imagine living on base like that would have a whole lot of things to get used to! Especially if you never lived on one before. I don't live on a post, and never have, but my hats off to all those who do, and not just to the soldiers giving their time and dedication....but to those who love them. I kind of think I might enjoy listening to Taps played each night. I can see where it would be a calming thing. Can't imagine the cannon going off though! I'll bet that's loud and probably gives a resonating boom you can probably feel. Bless you and your little family there!

Thank you. Yes there is a lot to get used to around here lol. I have never lived on base before, I have been here to visit, and just moved here two weeks ago. We are far enough away from where ever the cannon is, so it's not that loud, but you still hear it! lol Of course, my daughter is used to all this and doesn't pay it any mind anymore lol.
