Why do we drive on the parkway and park in the driveway?

English is considered one of the hardest languages to learn because of all the rules in the grammar but more because of all the exceptions to those rules. There are also many things that do not mean what they say. So why do we drive on the parkway and not on the driveway? Why do we park in the driveway? Feel free to enlighten me on this as I always wondered about it.

a good question!but i'm soor to tell you that i also don't know why. i am a univerty student majoring in english,so i also wander the answere.i am waiting....
