Hello everyone So in my life at some point I would love to be a foster parent. I am only 22 now, so it would not be possible. And i have a 6 year old son. If i was to become a foster parent i would want to take in older kids. Not that I do not absolutely love little kids because I do. But little children, and babies are always what people want, and likely find an adoptive home. However kids that are older usally end up staying in the sytem until they reach an adult age and then are on their own. My goal would be to actually give these kids a home, and even when they become to old, i still want to be part of their live and help them to become succesful. Any kid not having parents is sad, but once these kids get too old the chances they will ever have a real home is so small. I would love to be able to help these kids that no one else want to help. What about you..have you ever considered taking in foster childre? Why or why wouldnt you want to be one?

I have often thought about being a foster parent, and it is something that I might want to do in the future, but I worry about the effects it might have on my own children.

I worry about that too. However when my son is grown, fostering is absolutely what I want to do. Foster children usally have a lot of problems and need lots of help. I want to give it to them, but i dont want my child exposed to these things when he does not need to be. So i will wait until he is much older, and then that is what I want to do.Thank you for your response...Happy Mylotting!

Before I became a parent I wanted to be a foster parent. I used to always say that if I was unable to have children I would adopt. Once I had children though my mindset changed. I agree everyone wants babies and small children as foster children or adoptive children. I would also opt for older children because I believe all children should have a loving home. However, I will not adopt or be a foster parent until all of my children are older. More because I am over protective of them and don't want anything bad to happen to them, but partly because I believe that any new addition to a family should have a lot of attention in the beginning while everyone adjust to the new family member, whether the new addition is a foster child, adopted child, or a new baby.

I absolutly get what your saying, and I feel the same way. I do not want to foster any children especially a teen until my son is older. They can oftentimes bring bad behaviours into the house in the begining, and it would be a struggle to get them on the right path ( usally). So i also want to wait until my son is older. Thank you for your great response...Happy Mylotting!

I think it is wonderful that you would want to take in older children as they are harder to place. I have thought about taking in foster kids, but I have 4 children of my own and am running like crazy with them. I don't see myself finding the time for any more kids.

I want to wait until my son is grown...i will only be in my 30's then. That is when i want to take a foster kid in. I want to wait until he is grown, becuase a lot of the kids, needs more attention and will bring bad behaviours into the home. So i want my son to be grown so I will be able to concentrate my time on this teen who will really need somebody, but wanting to push everyone away. Thank you for your response! Happy Mylotting

at one time i gave it serious thought. i love children & missed having a child around after my boys grew up & left home. i changed my mind when my health got bad but i would have liked to have done it.
